*Chapter 148: Not Playing the Villain Today (Part 2)*
Added 2024-09-16 03:45:33 +0000 UTCDiana handed Jane a small, delicate golden hairpin and said in a gentle, captivating voice, “This is a hidden spatial locator. You need to twist it like this to activate it. Remember, we belong to the Greek pantheon, and we’re not aligned with the Norse gods. If you ever find yourself in Norse territory, it’s best to check in with Thor first to avoid any misunderstandings.”
“Oh! Right!” Jane suddenly realized something, “You and Mr. Wayne…”
Diana glanced at Atreus and smiled, “Atreus can be trusted.”
After chatting a bit more, Jane watched Wonder Woman leave. The room started to rise again, bringing her back to the first floor of the villa.
Jane carefully reviewed the contract Atreus had provided, written in elegant English on parchment paper, and signed her name with a flourish. What she didn’t realize was that she wasn’t signing a divine contract—she was signing Atreus’s system.
Atreus secretly sighed in relief. This was his backup plan.
In case he failed at his future plans of slaying gods, he could still borrow divine power through the contract. Whether it was from her or Thor, both were potential backup options for him.
This was a win for him.
What Atreus didn’t expect was that just as the meeting ended and Jane was about to leave, she suddenly put on a show—the kind that could make even the God of Thunder fall head over heels. She struck a perfect S-curve pose and flashed a brilliant smile.
“Mr. Wayne, am I not beautiful?” Her shy voice, paired with her pure and beautiful face, plus a hint of playful seductress energy... It had to be said, this woman, who bore a 99% resemblance to another world’s movie star Natalie Portman, had undeniable beauty.
Even Atreus, who had seen countless stunning women, was momentarily captivated.
But he quickly snapped out of it, realizing what she was trying to do. He laughed, “Your looks are great, but your figure? Not in my hunting range!”
Jane felt a rush of blood rise to her throat. She almost wanted to rip apart her new benefactor on the spot.
Her B-cup was her eternal source of frustration.
By the way, the American average is a D-cup!
Abandoning all pretense of being ladylike, this slightly wild girl flipped Atreus a not-so-friendly international gesture and stormed out, slamming the door.
In the hallway, her assistant, hearing the commotion, shrank back slightly, “Did it go wrong?”
“No, it went fine,” Jane huffed.
“Then…?”
Jane didn’t hide the truth from her assistant and best friend, rolling her eyes, “It’s that other thing you’ve been gossiping about that went wrong.”
“Well, looks like I’ll have to take on that impossible mission myself.” The assistant, tossing her hair, adjusted her bra, feeling that her figure had just leveled up a notch.
“...”
A little later, Atreus was watching the three of them leave through the villa’s surveillance feed when Wonder Woman suddenly appeared beside him. “I thought she was your type.”
Atreus’s right eyelid twitched. “She still has feelings for Thor. I have no interest in getting involved in a teammate’s love life.”
Diana didn’t seem to mind and said, “As expected, a common enemy can resolve many conflicts.”
Without a threat to their survival, many people would start acting recklessly, just like the man in front of her.
Atreus knew when to stop.
Jane Foster was tempting, but he had no interest in mortal women anymore. Nowadays, even when he was with the Canary Sisters, he had to rely on the system to lower his power level and lock it in place, or else someone might end up with multiple fractures—or worse (funny enough, Helen, being the daughter of Zeus, had a much tougher physique, probably around 50 points).
But what would happen when Jane became Thor herself? What would her relationship with Thor be like then? Rather than get entangled and risk ruining a powerful female hero who could emerge in this lifetime, it was better to let go early.
Atreus was pretty casual about it this time.
There were plenty of female heroes. Wouldn’t Black Widow be more fun?
Ahem.
Atreus decisively abandoned any villainous schemes, and the leading man soon returned.
After leaving Atreus’s villa, Jane Foster looked at the seven-figure check in her hand and couldn’t contain her excitement.
Her group of three didn’t even have to squeeze into economy class. They boarded a private Gulfstream jet booked by Atreus, headed straight for London, along with two female bodyguards Atreus had assigned to them—Katana and Huntress.
But before they could meet up with Dr. Erik Selvig, something else caught their attention.
It was a tip from some ten-year-old kids. In an abandoned factory area, Jane found a strange chain of spatial portals.
Throwing a stone into a well would sometimes make the stone fall back down from directly above. Such a miraculous scene made Jane incredibly excited.
Sometimes, misfortune strikes when you’re happiest.
Even though Huntress was by her side, as Jane was walking, she suddenly stepped into a spatial tunnel and was transported to a mysterious place.
There, she saw two overlapping black cubes.
Between the cubes, a wave of red, blood-like liquid suddenly surged out, engulfing Jane.
When Jane woke up again, she was surrounded by Darcy, Ian, and two very apologetic female bodyguards, Huntress and Katana.
“What happened?” Jane asked.
“You were missing for five hours,” Darcy said nervously, glancing at the two ‘babysitters’ sent by the boss, but decided to explain, “I was about to call the police, but Ms. Bertinelli, the Huntress, disagreed. She said this is a matter for the extraordinary.”
“She’s right. If you foolishly called the police, you’d alert S.H.I.E.L.D., and then we wouldn’t have control over this fascinating research site,” Jane said, still focused on her research.
Darcy was about to say something when Huntress and Katana suddenly turned, drawing their weapons, ready for a fight.
A moment later, they both relaxed.
The newcomer was none other than Thor, in full godly regalia.
Thor seemed surprised to see the two female heroes. “I know you two, from New York…”
“We’re now Ms. Foster’s bodyguards,” Huntress calmly explained, then stepped aside.
Thor walked up to Jane.
It looked like an emotional reunion was about to happen, and every woman present was eagerly waiting for something to unfold.
This was a love story between a mortal and a god, a tale that would be sung by countless people for generations!
At this much-anticipated moment, Jane Foster displayed her unique romantic genius.
Slap! A crisp sound rang out as she slapped Thor’s left cheek.
For someone as tough-skinned as Thor, it didn’t hurt at all. He was more worried about Jane’s hand.
“Sorry, I had to make sure you’re real. Today’s been too weird.”
“I’m real, Jane!” Thor flashed a charming smile.
Of course, to Jane, that goofy smile was asking for another slap.
Slap! This time, Thor’s right cheek got it.
The expressions of the four onlookers were priceless—this was Thor, the mighty god of legend!
“Where the hell have you been?”
