Chapter 150: The Cursed Warrior in Full Display
Added 2024-09-16 04:03:02 +0000 UTCThis ties into the long history of conflict between Asgard and the Dark Elves.
It dates back to the era of Bor Odinson, the previous King of Asgard, around 10,000 years ago.
Bor led the Aesir of Asgard in uniting the Nine Realms, which included the Dark World of Svartalfheim, home of the Dark Elves.
In ancient times, the truth was only found on the blade of a sword.
Most races in the Nine Realms couldn't accept the Dark Elves' tendency to plunge worlds into eternal darkness, and Asgard’s might was far greater.
That was all there was to it.
Bor theoretically drove the Dark Elves to the brink of extinction, destroying all of their known interstellar motherships. If there was one thing worth noting about the Dark Elves’ military, it would be their Cursed Warriors, who exchanged their souls and lives for power.
Recently, the Nine Realms have been plagued by rebellion and rampant banditry.
Thor has been incredibly busy, using the Bifrost to instantly deploy forces across the stars, crushing rebellion after rebellion.
Asgard now handles things far more civilly than in the past, capturing and imprisoning many rebel leaders in the dungeons beneath the palace. In Bor’s day, they would have been executed, just as the Dark Elves had been.
Thor is preoccupied with matters concerning Jane, leaving him no time to deal with the "trivial" affairs of the prison.
From the perspective of a certain traveler, this was a massive oversight.
Who locks up enemies in their own home after defeating them!? Isn’t that like sleeping on an active volcano?
Atreus suddenly realized his own connection to the situation when he saw the Kryptonian female lieutenant curling up like an ostrich with her head buried in a pillow, nervously rubbing her legs—"Oh! I’m in the same boat. Never mind, then."
Back to Asgard, trouble was indeed brewing.
One of the large prisoners captured by Thor’s Warriors Three was actually a Dark Elf infiltrator.
Due to their arrogance, Asgardian guards didn't even bother to properly search him. They only confiscated obvious weapons before throwing them into the dungeons.
The prison cells were quite advanced, consisting of concave cells with energy screens as doors.
To be fair, in the thousands of years Asgard had existed, no one had ever broken through these screens, as they shared the same technology as Asgard’s spatial barriers.
Not even a small rebel leader could hope to break through it. In fact, even Loki, the former Asgardian prince and God of Mischief, who had recently been imprisoned, couldn’t escape from these cells.
But nothing is ever certain!
The Dark Elf prisoner wasn’t just any ordinary soldier. His name was Algrim, the second-in-command of the Dark Elves.
Not just anyone could become a Cursed Warrior—the stronger the individual, the more power they could unleash when burning their soul as fuel.
Algrim drove the cursed stone he had hidden into his wound, triggering its power.
"Whoosh—"
A blinding light suddenly erupted in the cell, instantly drawing the attention of the few Asgardian guards and other prisoners.
Scarlet flames shot out from the gaps in Algrim’s armor, incinerating several unlucky prisoners in the cell within seconds.
Although the golden energy screen continued to function, the guards could feel the temperature in the dungeon corridors rising to levels that would be fatal to an ordinary human.
Only their superior Asgardian physiques allowed them to breathe in the scorching heat.
One unlucky prisoner, who had been hiding in the far corner of the cell, escaped the initial burst of flames.
But he didn’t have time to run before the 8-foot-tall Cursed Warrior grabbed the back of his head. His pleas for mercy turned into a distorted, drawn-out sound as he was dragged to the energy screen, where his face melted into a horrifying scream.
At this moment, the entire dungeon corridor was bathed in a crimson glow.
The flames illuminated the golden armor of the two Asgardian guards, but the fire that spread down the corridor seemed to avoid the faint divine aura surrounding them.
Unfortunately, that aura didn’t give them enough confidence.
They could only stare blankly as the Cursed Warrior, with a strength that surpassed Thor’s, shattered the energy screen with a single punch.
"Boom—" The flames that had been trapped inside the small cell erupted like a fiery waterfall.
The guards summoned all their strength to withstand the blast.
Suppressing their shock, one guard gripped the hilt of his sword tightly, while the other clenched his spear imbued with divine energy.
A deafening crash echoed!
Out of the flames strode a hulking figure that resembled not a humanoid, but a beast in heavy armor.
Through the eye holes of his massive horned helmet burned eyes filled with vengeful fury. His spiked pauldrons only heightened his menacing aura.
What little skin was exposed between his armor glowed like molten lava, radiating heat.
His bulging muscles and massive frame held a terrifying power that even Asgardians couldn’t fathom.
Step by step, he approached.
Unable to withstand the extreme heat and choking sulfurous smoke that poured from the creature’s mouth, the two guards screamed and charged.
As the elite guards of the dungeon, their skills were far from poor.
One managed to strike a blow with his divine weapon, cleaving off a small piece of the Cursed Warrior’s pauldron.
But that was all.
In the next instant, they were swatted aside like helpless children.
The combination of overwhelming power, speed, and searing heat was unstoppable.
Even if the Warriors Three themselves had been present, they likely would have fallen.
After effortlessly killing the two guards, the Cursed Warrior quickly dispatched the second wave of reinforcements and tore down the dungeon, releasing a large number of rebels and elite bandits who harbored deep resentment toward Asgard.
He needed these people as cannon fodder to divert Odin’s attention.
Almost at the same moment, Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard, noticed the disturbance from the Bifrost, his all-seeing eyes detecting the presence of hidden threats.
Without hesitation, Heimdall abandoned the Bifrost’s now-irrelevant main gate, leaping ten stories into the air. Drawing his sword, he sliced through the empty space.
"Clank—"
A streak of fire and mechanical debris erupted as a Dark Elf spaceship appeared in his view.
The sound of the alarm echoed across Asgard!
