Chapter 173: [Doomsday] (2)
Added 2024-09-19 06:59:30 +0000 UTCWhen Superman went in to find Lex Luthor, Director Nick looked at the trio floating mid-air with some hesitation.
Nick found it most difficult to understand the personalities of Kratos and his group.
They weren't like Superman, Batman, or Spider-Man, who were obviously on the side of good. Even if there were robberies or murders in Gotham or New York—bank heists, even—the three seldom showed up. Only Wonder Woman occasionally came out to catch a criminal.
Kratos, in particular, had a habit of dealing with the big threats and ignoring the smaller ones.
As for S.H.I.E.L.D., Kratos simply didn't bother with them.
This wasn't great for S.H.I.E.L.D. or the entire American upper echelon. After all, with top-level world power not under their control, high-ranking American officials were constantly uneasy.
It seemed he was willing to talk to Tony, though. Sure enough, Tony flew over to start a conversation.
"Boss, do you want me to make contact?" Black Widow asked Nick.
"Focus on the task at hand," Nick replied.
Before he even finished speaking, Superman was blasted out.
This surprised quite a few people.
You have to understand, Superman was widely recognized as the pinnacle of superheroes on Earth. With his incredibly powerful body, eye beams that could instantly destroy a building, and supersonic flight, he was practically unbeatable.
Seeing his temporary defeat, Nick gritted his teeth and gave the order: "All Avengers, maximum alert."
No one noticed that in the lab where Superman had just been blasted out, Lex Luthor was laughing heartily: "Yes! That's it! Go, Doomsday! Hahaha! General Zod, you never imagined this, right? Even in death, you'll be my slave!"
As the saying goes, joy turns to sorrow; as this handsome blond man was laughing maniacally and clapping his hands to show off his arrogance and insanity, the ground beneath him suddenly vanished.
A portal silently appeared at his feet.
He naturally fell right in.
A two-meter drop can be fatal to an unprepared ordinary person.
Lex was both lucky and unlucky.
He wasn't killed by the fall, but he was in considerable pain.
Before he could clumsily get up, a slender woman in a black battle suit suddenly appeared before him.
He certainly hadn't forgotten the attire of these Kryptonians when they invaded Earth. Seeing her, his mouth opened wide in shock: "Ah..."
His scream was cut off halfway, like a squealing chicken, as she grabbed him by the throat with one hand and lifted him high.
"Lex Luthor, what the hell did you just say? I'll give you one more chance to rephrase," Faora's eyes, capable of shooting laser beams, burned like fire.
"You... people who think of yourselves as gods... don't think... wah—"
Faora didn't let him continue. With a slight squeeze of her fingers, this handsome blond man's jaw turned into a bloody mess; his jawbone alone shattered into three-digit fragments, and his venomous tongue that spat hatred at all superhumans was ripped out on the spot.
"Uhh, uhh!" Lex wanted to die right then and there so he wouldn't have to endure more pain.
Unfortunately for him, death had become a luxury.
Faora pressed his head into an alien device, a medical capsule used by Dark Elves to heal their kin.
Here, he would receive good medical care, just to endure... even more torture.
Even if a scumbag like him desecrated corpses or kidnapped old ladies to threaten Superman, Batman would still send him to Arkham Asylum.
Atreus, on the other hand, would send him to a living hell.
This was the key difference between the wild father and the illegitimate son.
Faora looked at the struggling, despairing Lex, took a deep breath, and her face showed a subtle sense of conflict.
If she once felt resigned submission to Atreus, a strong figure, now her feelings, which should have been filled with hatred, carried an inexplicable sense of gratitude.
She glanced at the Canary sisters beside the medical pod. Against an opponent like Doomsday, even with twice the physical strength of ordinary people, the Canary sisters and Catwoman were unable to join the fight. All they could do was what was within their power.
"Please, sisters, keep an eye on this scumbag," Faora added.
This surprised the two sisters.
Dinah nodded graciously: "Don't worry, sister Faora. He won't get away."
Faora felt a little odd but nodded to acknowledge the address.
Meanwhile, near Lex's previous lab, an all-out battle was already raging.
"Boom—"
A loud explosion.
An area larger than a basketball court collapsed, and what was once a solid ground that could easily bear the weight of a tank now looked like a pile of broken tofu chunks—all because Doomsday punched Superman into the ground.
"Motherfucker, this is the city center!" Nick's distinctive African American accent exploded over the Avengers' comm channel.
But with the current Avengers lineup, they had no way to deal with a monster like Doomsday.
Before arriving, although Nick had a relatively clear understanding of the situation's severity—calculating it as 1.5 times the power of General Zod—when he saw that the one who sent Superman flying was a ten-meter-tall, orc-like humanoid monster, he couldn't help but curse.
With Thor and the Hulk absent, the Avengers were missing their crucial tank.
Tony Stark, the Iron Man, dared to approach the beast, firing missiles and repulsor beams. The creature, however, just pulled up a five-ton statue and flung it toward Tony's face.
Tony dodged instinctively.
The thirty-story building behind him wasn't so lucky. The statue smashed into it, and two floors were instantly obliterated. The whole building shook violently, and the terrified cries and screams of innocent civilians echoed through it.
"Kratos! Do something!" Tony shouted, tossing an earpiece to Atreus.
Atreus was somewhat annoyed.
He had known from the start that Doomsday was tough. In every version of history, Doomsday was a weapon that surpassed even Kryptonian elites.
The problem with "strength" is that it's all relative.
Just how much stronger? You only find out by fighting.
To deal with Doomsday, Atreus had indeed prepared a small green spear, but his preparation was not as thorough as others'.
If he didn't handle things well, it could turn into "there's always a conspirator trying to harm the king (Superman version)."
All the goodwill he had painstakingly built with Superman could easily vanish.
Atreus put on the earpiece reluctantly, and sure enough, a familiar voice came through: "Hello, Mr. Kratos, this is Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Both Gotham and the entire U.S. need your cooperation now."
"Go ahead," Atreus said.
"Can we move the battle to another location? The threat to the public here is too great."
"I'll see what I can do."
