Chapter 182: Interference
Added 2024-09-21 02:02:26 +0000 UTCNatasha was a bit speechless. She exchAtreused a glance with Director Nick Fury, realizing that this task was inevitably hers. As an agent with combat abilities limited to human levels, there wasn’t much she could contribute in the realm of the supernatural. Skilled in diplomacy, she was already doing all she could.
The Avengers didn’t pay too much attention to this matter. Compared to the relatively neutral Kratos squad, who were willing to help fight against evil, there were too many other entities that required their attention.
Agent Hill played another video. It showed a pitch-black, humanoid creature, as if it had been pulled out of an oil barrel. “This is a newly appeared unknown entity, which we have temporarily code-named Venom...”
Right! The Avengers had plenty of trouble to deal with.
Meanwhile, in a luxurious suite inside a building across from the New York Sanctum at Kamar-Taj, Atreus was experiencing the phrase “Nothing to do today, just listening to some tunes.”
After all, this wasn’t some shady venue, so they had to change the name.
The Canary sisters had beautiful Western voices, and Helen possessed the ability to mimic any sound. If needed, Helen could perfectly replicate the Canary sisters’ voices, creating a trio performance.
Atreus watched the live song and dance performance while feeling the waves created by Faora in the hydro-massage pool.
At the same time, he passively extended his perception, monitoring the Sanctum across the way.
Days of waiting were filled with such mundane activities.
Finally...
Almost simultaneously, Atreus, Wonder Woman, and Penthesilea’s eyes lit up.
“They're here!” the three said in unison.
The neighborhood around the New York Sanctum hadn’t been affected by the last battle in New York.
The streets were still bustling with people and cars.
Only the truly powerful could detect strange changes in the surrounding space.
The building across the street still looked the same, but under intense perception, every component of building had undergone subtle changes.
Tiles, exterior finishes, hanging lamps, windows—all the parts had merged in a non-logical, non-regular way, forming something that could barely be called a "building."
A group of people dressed in orange-red robes, resembling monks, was being blocked by a mysterious figure with their face hidden under a hood.
“Stop! You’re all surrounded by me alone!”
The situation felt absurd.
But that was the truth.
The one surrounding the group was none other than the Sorcerer Supreme, The Ancient One! She was confronting this group of traitors who had secretly infiltrated Kamar-Taj.
She was about to speak when she was shocked to discover that her Mirror Dimension had been invaded by another force.
The so-called Mirror Dimension is a space temporarily created by a sorcerer using the power of various realms, existing between reality and other parallel dimensions. It’s a kind of unstable spatial rift.
Any destruction within the Mirror Dimension wouldn’t affect the main world.
She had created it to settle scores with her “good disciple,” Kaecilius. But who would have thought that an outsider would interfere?
The purple-blue portal’s glow represented a power entirely different from that of Kamar-Taj.
When she saw the trio with a Greek aesthetic walking through the portal, she immediately recognized them.
Ancient One said in a deep voice, “This is an internal matter of Kamar-Taj. I hope the Olympians understand what I mean.”
Atreus, dressed in leather, smirked, “I understand. But I’m here to remind you, Ancient One. Ever since Loki used the Tesseract to tear open the space above New York, space here has become unstable. Don’t go too far. Even if this is your internal affair, if it escalates, don’t blame us for stepping in.”
“Hmph!” Ancient One’s eyes gleamed, and a strange green light shone from the eye-shaped ornament on her chest. Her gaze suddenly became incredibly deep, seemingly transcending the limits of time.
But in the next moment, her voice was filled with surprise.
Atreus's heart skipped a beat, knowing roughly why: Ancient One, who was accustomed to using the Eye of Agamotto and the Time Stone to glimpse the past and future, likely couldn’t see through his origins as a time traveler. This was undoubtedly a shock to her.
sorcerers of Kamar-Taj had always avoided creating time paradoxes to maintain the stability of the timeline. They would sometimes choose whether to intervene based on the situation.
Atreus was betting: He wanted to see if the Ancient One would prioritize the dark lord Dormammu behind Kaecilius or if she would take the risk and eliminate him, a hero with a good reputation but potentially the cause of time disturbances.
Kaecilius and his lackeys were equally unsure of Atreus’s intentions, leaving the three parties in a standoff.
Of course, Atreus deliberately directed most of his killing intent towards Kaecilius.
Sure enough, Ancient One made her decision. She slowly removed her orange hood, revealing her highly recognizable bald head.
As the saying goes, “A bald head doesn’t trouble another bald head.”
Ancient One's decision was clearly in Atreus’s favor. “Mr. Kratos, your assistance is not needed. I can handle it.”
Atreus anticipated her response, “Very well. Out of respect for you, I won’t interfere. But if I see these guys causing trouble in New York again, don’t blame me for stepping in.”
“...Alright.”
Ancient One and the traitorous Kaecilius watched as trio stepped back through the portal, as if they had just heard the starting gun, and immediately started fighting...
Back in the suite across from the New York Sanctum, Penthesilea grumbled discontentedly, “So, we’re just leaving like that?”
“For true powerhouses, you need to have enough respect. At her peak, she could easily tear apart the Furies.”
To tear apart a true god—how terrifying must that power be!
The queen instinctively recoiled; the psychological shadow left by the Furies was immense.
Wonder Woman’s lovely red lips twitched. She instinctively wanted to ask if the Ancient One would help her deal with Ares, God of War threatening her homeland. At that moment, she caught onto a keyword: “At her peak?”
“Yes! She’s dying. I can feel her soul being severely corrupted by dark forces. If I’m not mistaken, with her fierce temperament, she would never allow herself to fall into demonic corruption. She’ll end her own life before committing any unforgivable sins. She’s holding on for now only because she hasn’t found the next Sorcerer Supreme. Once the new Sorcerer Supreme takes over, I can resolve this matter smoothly.”
