Let me translate the final Kurt angle tweet for you guys. “I was drunk last night, I am sorry I like Randy I’m actually cool w him using my move and I miss my friends in wwe” definitely 1000% what happened 😂😂😂
Edit: yea see punk knows 🤣
Edit 2: you guys have to start watching a few shows ahead of your actual podcast starting point. Cody had the mask deemed as legal and part of his necessary attire. He had used it multiple times leading up to this. That’s why when it comes off Rey uses it with impunity. Despite wwes struggles with continuity this was established prior to this match
Edit 3: again despite wwes corporate silliness I’m pretty sure the reason wwe spell “the corre” w 2 r’s is bc of the band having trademarked merch w that name on it…

You're wrong about Channing Tatum becoming too big of a star to do the G.I. Joe sequel.
It's a little strange actually.
After the first movie, Tatum seemed to have failed to become a big star at all. The first film also did mixed business. For that reason, The Rock was brought in as the bigger star when the film was shot and the film would dispose of Tatum (still under contract) quickly.
In 2011 and 2012 Tatum became the big star he had failed to be before. This caused a serious problem, as audiences were not happy to see Tatum thrown under the Bus for The Final Boss.
The film was pulled from the release schedule and reedited to change what happens with Tatum. They did reshoots, but it sounds like Tatum didn't want to be involved. Tatum was not happy with the G.I. Joe people in general.
So Tatum was pulled for not being the bigger star but he was the bigger star. Because he was under contract he would have been forced to star in the movie. If the studio had any clue he would take off, they would have focused the movie around him.
It was a huge mistake.

I think it could be credibly argued that Triple H is one of the only people in the business who never sold out.
He's always thought of his own career first and foremost and acted accordingly.
If anything he's remarkably consistent.

Luke has it backwards. Guest Host Era was first, then Vickie briefly, then Bret Hart. Bret was taken out by The Nexus, as well as Vince later, which lead to an Anonymous GM they were unable to attack. Later Trips, People Power, and then The Authority took over.

I was like 9 around this time and I had loved Cena until he beat Rey for the WWE title the same night he won it. Rey was my hero growing up so I hated Cena for a good bit after that. Although I did also dislike the Rock at the time.

Edge isn't hiding sadness here, he doesn't know he's retiring yet. He find out a week later after he screws up his neck spearing Brodus Clay on the next Smackdown. That's why they advertise Del Rio vs. Edge in a ladder match for the next PPV. The retirement announcement wasn't the next night, it was two weeks later.

I remember at the time this happened, for some reason I was trying to convince myself it was a good Wrestlemania. I still enjoy Triple H/Undertaker. Punk/Orton and Mysterio Rhodes, but I sure was a silly billy.

As someone who was around 10 when this was happening, I didn't have issues with Cena I for the most part liked him. So seeing the rock just felt like heel John Cena. I was more of a smackdown kid anyway but I definitely wasn't feeling the hype compared to everyone else at the time I'm sure.

I’m going to be 28 this year, so I grew up as a John cena kid. Hell I’ve always been a die hard cena fan, dude was my hero growing up. But looking back now with hindsight, I can absolutely see why people HATED John cena lol. His booking didn’t help him, always just he wins lmao.

Another point of evidence to add to "The old guard get all the cool stuff": Both Undertaker and HHH entered to licensed music (since removed from the Network/Netflix obviously). To be fair, they were both great entrances; Undertaker especially.
Interesting also that, on Netflix, For Whom the Bell Tolls got the Jimmy Hart treatment for HHH, whereas Johnny Cash's cover of Ain't No Grave for Undertaker has been replaced completely.

i missed having the opening video package of the PPV at the start of the video. I assume that wasn't added due to this being the youtube one, but can we maybe add it in for the patreon version of the future youtube ones? I find it a great way to remember the general stuff going into the event before they get to talking about it.

so excited for this series!
HOWEVER, am upset we aren’t getting a chronicle of the DIY saga, where we could have updated thoughts and feelings, starting at the cruiserweight classic, spanning through their run and then even looking at the raw episode when DIY were “called up” with ricochet and black aswell! Would’ve been goofy but also some great shows!

Small thing but it comes up a lot when WT Extra does Wrestlemanias - America the Beautiful is not the US National Anthem. Famously, despite being a massive Republican, Vince hates the Star-Spangled Banner - the actual anthem - and so insisted on playing a different patriotic song.

Edge has come out and said he didn't know anything about his neck until POST mania. He went and got scans and got the news after WrestleMania. So he and WWE didnt know he would have to retire as of this match.

Fun fact regarding the Triple H entrance, he was originally supposed to come out on horseback, but when they did it during the rehearsal it fell through the stage so had to change it. The whole viking vibe was cool (but too long obviously), it was slightly odd that it started with the arena going dark and a gong sounding I thought though.

I actually have some form of affection for this show, solely because it was the first Wrestlemania I ever watched. I do have some nostalgia for it. I will still argue the HHH/Taker match is great. Edge/Del Rio and Punk/Orton are okay. But watching it back as an adult it is by and large a dogshit show. Even as a dumb kid I hated those Rock promos and would skip past them (I had to watch this on DVD and actually still have it stored somewhere in my house). You’ll never catch me arguing this is a good show. Despite that, I don’t mind it being my first Wrestlemania. Because I experienced the worst right off the bat, it’s only up from there. And if I can withstand this then I can watch through anything.

There is no way they knew that Edge was retiring. The next Smackdown they book a rematch between Edge and Del Rio for Extreme Rules. Also Guest Hosts were 2009 so we’ve already had that at this point.
