Night Mother

Often mentioned in nursery rhymes and mistakenly told as a monster under the bed or inside the closet, Night Mother is a hag that for some reason was twisted out of its own nature and became an enigmatic being even among the hags. Unlike other hags, she is an empathetic, loving, and motherly being. She has the ability to slip into the gap in-between reality and capable of using powerful ancient fae magic. She has unique behavior and interest; She always looking for lonely, abused, and sorrowful children to befriend and protect.

Once she finds them, she will try to gain their trust by consoling them when they’re sad or healing their wounds, she would even shapeshift into something that wouldn’t scare them. She would form a telephatic bond with the child to feel what they truly feeling and observe through their senses. She will protect the child and become very maternal toward them, but she wouldn’t resolve to violence unless the child’s life is threatened.

Some stories associate her with children’s disappearance insinuating that she would eventually kidnap and kill the child, but the fact is Night Mother would only take the child away from their home or parent if the child’s life is in danger or as the last resort if the child asks her to take them. Those who choose to go with her are taken to her pocket realm, taught how to survive, and eventually leave when they’re old enough. Those with arcane talent often emerge as a powerful magic user that is capable of using ancient fae magic after being trained by the Night Mother herself. While those who choose to not go will continue to receive her guidance and protection until they find happiness, when that happens they will gradually forget about her existence and live a normal life.

Although the separation of the object in the artwork is rather messy and hasty, I really love the concept. Thanks to DrezenDragon for helping me came up with the idea in the discord~

The concept is basically a hag that got twisted so far that it becomes something good. imagine negative times negatives equal positive. something that corrupts and twists everything it touch become something that mends those who were broken and discarded.
