This device is a creation of the Department of Arcane Technology Research and Development, colloquially known in the Grand Library as The Pale Tower. Initially, it was devised by the Director of the Archive for personal use. A few years ago, artificers within the department were granted permission by the Director to attempt the fabrication of a simpler variant of his original device, aimed at easier production. Recently, their efforts have come to fruition with the development of this device, named the Auxiliary Assistant. While it lacks the extensive functionality and utility of the original, the Auxiliary Assistant provides its user with an additional pair of hands. These hands are designed to assist with various tasks or to enable individuals with mobility and movement impairments to work as efficiently as their able-bodied counterparts. The models vary from those intended for mundane tasks to those with reinforced structures and arcane circuits suitable for combat use.

This device features a pair of mechanical hands attached to a lightweight, spine-like framework and a small backpack. Once attuned, it integrates with your body, allowing you to control the hands as if they were your own. The hands can interact with objects, carry up to 10 pounds, perform somatic spell components, and manipulate items with precision. They cannot be used to make attacks or to wield a shield.

Artisan's Aid. When making a check using artisan's tools, you can roll a 1d6 and add the number to the check. You can decide to use this feature after you roll but before knowing whether the check succeeds or fails. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and all expended uses are restored after a long rest.

Variant MK. II

Combat Assistant. The hands of this model are designed for combat and can be used to make attacks. The hand can wield a shield and weapons you are proficient with, provided they lack the heavy, two-handed, or special properties. Once per turn, you can make one weapon attack using the weapon it's wielding as a bonus action. You can use your Dexterity, or Intelligence modifier for the attack, but You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of this bonus attack.

Variant MK.III

Spell Assistant. Whenever you cast a cantrip, you can use a bonus action on the same turn to cast that cantrip a second time as the device mimics your action. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and all expended uses are restored after a short or long rest.
