Weβve experienced the same thing! We had a cat and a sheltie that would sleep next to each other. When the new sheltie arrived, the cat had a brief moment of excitement, thinking it was her old pal. When she got close and realized the truth, her back went up. She tolerated the dog but never got close to it like the other one.
