v0.6 Mini Progress Log 9

Brief progress log here. I've been focused on wrapping up the coding of the routines, but that whole task is not done yet. I'll be saving those for the next log, and have all that subject in a single log.

Anyhow, my main focus was indeed the routines, but there was still plenty of fun elsewhere. Mainly with the 2 distractors that popped up. Let's talk about that.

The first distractor being, that there there had been an increasingly more problematic issue since around 0.4, and that was the layer limitations for CGs. Up until now the code allowed for 5 layers which I could work with. This worked fine for the early-game content, but as the events have become progressively more complex. They've also been requiring more and more layers. Thus far that issue had been band-aided by merging different images into a single image which allowed me to squeeze a couple more layers of content into those 5 layers. However, after importing the sprites from the past couple of months into the engine which contained a lot of extra images for the new events, it just became too much.

Some of the new events simply require too many sprites at once. So, I went in to hammer the code so that it could allow a bunch more layers, and it's done. It wasn't as simple as just increasing the amount of layers, as that was breaking the rest of the events in various ways, but with some trial and error it turned out very well, the problem of the lack of layers is now fixed, and the rest of the existing events are not affected by the changes in the code.

Another additional thing that had to be coded in, was a new set of functions that would allow Hana's body to be able to show different states, and be able to reflect various things that happen to her. For the sake of not spoiling anything, let's keep it simple. Think about Hana getting wet down there after a fun interaction. That is now possible, though that is only one of around 15 states that are in the game. This new function is truly helping a lot with some of the new events. Having that additional visual of the stuff that's going on is great. Another cool thing is that these were done in a very versatile way that allows Hana to be affected by multiple state changes at once, so things can get quite interesting visually, especially in the later levels. I'm actually quite happy with this one.

Again, very short progress log, this is just the stuff unrelated to routines that took some time to add, and was important enough to mention.

Another thing, I mentioned on my previous log that I was thinking of doing something a bit exciting a the end of December. However, holidays were a bit busier than expected, and I'm missing some sprites that are involved. However, I'm still going to do it, just waiting for the necessary sprites and I'll be releasing that token of appreciation.

That'll do it for this brief progress log. It might've been brief, but I can tell you that this is the calm before the storm-...! Anyhow, thank you for supporting Hana's Exposure!

I know the feeling. I love the project, hate the protracted periods with 0 communication.
