May Updates

Hey everyone!

This month I've been making a lot of progress in gameplay, assets, and builds.

 

First, as you can see above I was able to get the game to work on mobile, Android specifically. So from here on out along with the PC builds I'll be exporting Android apks for anyone who wants to play it on that device.

I'm still working on getting a Mac version ready, looking into everything that has to do with making one.

THE NEXT RECRUITABLE BOSS
Back onto story-related things we have the next boss you'll be recruiting for Voss

A pirate captain who terrorizes the coasts of the island, who also happens to be a monkey. He and his crew will be the next dungeon you encounter on your journey.

Another character to mention is the chef of the restaurant on the beach

He's a calm and gentle Ram. I bring him up because he'll be the first character I'll be testing the Affection System on. You can think of the affection system as a visual novel but a bit more involved. Giving gifts and saying the right things to characters will boost their affection toward you. Having high enough affection would unlock new scenes for them and even the ability to romance them.


ONTO GAMEPLAY

I've replaced the text component with a more readable version of it, It should remove a lot of the blurriness. Along with this, it gives me the ability to animate the text and give it color. I hope this enhances the experience when reading and going through scenes.


As for Jasper's movement I mentioned in the post on the 5th that I was working on making it more fun to attack and move around. I increased his movement speed greatly, this should speed up the gameplay so you're not stuck with long periods of just walking if you don't want to.

Jasper's sword form now has a three-hit combo with animations to go along with it. The last hit does more damage than the first two hits. (I put a video in the attachments of these changes.)

For Jasper's fist form, I'm looking to replace the way it works. At the current moment, it's a bit clunky and sometimes breaks. What I'm looking to do it to make it into a flurry of punches the more you press the button instead of a dash forward.

MINIMAP

During play testing, I've noticed people becoming lost so to help with this I've implemented a mini-map in the top right of the screen. This is a zoomed-out view of where you are currently so I'm hoping this will help see pathways you can take.

SAVING

I've been noticing saving has still been a bit odd.

I found out the dialogue was saving but nothing else really was. So, I have written savers that now save everything on the character. Including items, money, hearts and max hearts, etc.

This should solve almost every issue that comes with saving and saving should be fully functional in the next build.

Oddly enough after doing Gavin's scene and saving in his house, the cutscene for re-entering happens when you reload. afterwards you can't move or open the menu which is odd. not sure what happened. sometimes frozen at loading zones between area too and have to mash movement a bit to move forward.
