That "choice"? Wapol explicitly directed his soldiers, when raiding a doctor's home, to throw the doctor into the sea, and to kill him if he tried to come back to shore. I guess, according to you, when a tyrant comes to your door, tells you that you serve only him, and puts a gun your family's head, that if you "chose" to serve him to spare your family and your own life, that you're complicit with the tyrant's crimes. Yeah, no. That's a stupid argument.

2024-06-27 07:34:57 +0000 UTCTo be fair to Vivi's change of character and apparent ability, she didn't exactly infiltrate infiltrate Baroque Works on her own. She had Igaram there with her. I'm certain that she pulled as much of the weight to get up to a numbered position as she could, but I would be shocked if Igaram, who as the head of the Alabasta royal guard wasn't exactly a pushover, did what he could to inflate her reputation. That's not to say that she didn't do anything to earn her position, but it's also fairly likely that her position was higher than what she would have earned by her merit alone - particularly when given the fact that she first infiltrated the organization when she was just fourteen.

2024-06-27 07:04:32 +0000 UTCI'm not sure where you get the idea that Nami/Vivi is the biggest Nami ship; while it's not unheard of, it's a fairly niche pairing. Luffy/Nami is brought up fairly regularly in the general fandom when shipping is discussed all, but in all of the years that I've been involved with the One Piece community, I've only ever seen Nami/Vivi be brought up in fairly small circles, or by people who like to give Luffy a harem, where Vivi is generally the third or fourth pick. I'm fairly certain that even Sanji/Nami and Nami/Robin are more "mainstream" than Nami/Vivi is - to say nothing of Luffy/Nami shippers, who, from what I've seen, comprise the biggest Nami ship by far, and one of the biggest ships in the fandom.

It's not like Wapol ever gave them a choice, and it's not like Wapol actually had all of the remaining doctors exiled. He literally used the twenty doctors as bait to get Hiruluk in front of a firing squad, and would have had him executed if he didn't end his own life first. There's no way that he actually did anything as pleasant as "exiling" all of the doctors. He enslaved the ones that he wanted, and alternatively ran off or killed the rest.

You kind of need to remember that for a lot of people at this point in Luffy's journey he is just some silly kid to them, they don't know how strong he is. So Dalton goes up to the mountain thinking he is the only chance they have at killing Wapol and that he would need to sacrifice himself to do it both bc of Wapol's fruit and to atone for all the time he willing worked under Wapol. I do agree that Vivi is annoying during this arc and honestly biggest issue I have with Vivi is it feels like as soon as they reveal her as a princess Oda forgot that she worked as an assassin and became good enough to earn a number so she should be able to fight way better, and be way stronger then what is shown off

2023-08-09 15:55:20 +0000 UTCWhen I was like 14, I watched a hundred or two episodes of Bleach never really loving Ichigo much, I was there for everyone else and cried for villians dying far more than I ever did for the main character, but I think Luffy is a pretty great character and he himself is invested in the idea of a crew and he doesn't have to learn the heavy lesson of needing to rely on others, he starts knowing full well he can't do everything by himself and isn't generic weight of the world bearing protagonist number 500

Luffy's fruit is also a seperate type and Smoker's is yet another different type of fruit. Its just Oda slowly telling us the limitations and categories of devil fruit powers

Goes on this big monologue about the armory only to misplace the key, the birds nest in the defunct cannon, and then getting stuck in the roof like an old cartoon character before his final departure is the icing on the cake.
