Impel Down, uses it (I hope) due to continuity from Alabasta despite airing in 2009 Being a LGBTQ+ is still illegal in many countries, and even where it is legal, the harassment continues for a long time

There are certainly issues with Oda refusing to kill characters (*cough* Pell *cough), but you can start to see here why he doesn't typically want to. Old characters can reappear under totally new circumstances, allowing for different development than they received in their original arcs, and new fun interactions can be explored. It also just helps the world feel more alive, when we can see how old friends and enemies have been getting on since getting off Mugiwara's wild ride.

Okama (what One Piece refers to Bon Clay as, i.e "homosexual cross-dresser") have been included in other manga/anime for jokes, but Oda made them actual badasses and gave them a culture and an entire kingdom in One Piece. Always thought that was pretty cool.

I guess this is what people mean when they say they have beef with someone. I will forever love the fact that Mr 3 of all people is in this arc. One of the most minor villains in the Grand Line. And not only that, but he actually gets to be pretty effective. Like using his power to combo with Luffy to finish off the Minotaur.
