So, I’ve just been informed that I’ve been laid off from my actual day job that brings in most of my cash.

This is (probably) not a crisis! I have an emergency fund, I’ve been getting a bit of money from Patreon, and it doesn’t go into effect until Jan 5th. I also have a huge backlog of PTO that is getting cashed out. I’m not in immediate danger.

It does mean I’m going to be on the job hunt, because writing can’t pay the bills even if my Patreon earnings were ten times what they are today.

I want to be clear: this wasn’t a huge surprise. Funding has been difficult lately, and they’re actively looking for another place in a different department to place me, but competition is fierce. I’ll likely have to move back into (ugh) private industry. With all the soul-crushing that involves.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR NEOPHYTE WORLD BUILDER?

Probably nothing. I have a chapter backlog anyway, and I was already moving to a 3/week schedule. It’ll probably mean less time for me to answer comments until I can get a new job lined up, but the chapter updates should keep coming.

I will probably more seriously look at a KU publishing deal now, though.
