Teen Titans Go! To The Movies Review

Of all the properties for DC to make a theatrical movie...

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies Review

Comments

You left out the post-credits scene, which caused quite a stir back then... it showed the original Teen Titans show characters saying they found a way to come back. People were optimistic and thinking they might get a rebooted show or a movie. Hah! Instead, we got a new TTG movie that they dragged the old characters into as well... it was somehow, worse than this one.

35:30 -Nah, in the comics Deathstroke isn't like this at all. Heck, the original Teen Titan toon version doesn't resemble him much either. He is a mercenary, and not even a strict supervillain, he will work for the US government if they pay him well. He also doesn't have giant robots or robot duplicates. He got experimental surgery in the army so he can use both lobes of his brain, giving him super fast reflexes and he can think several steps ahead in martial arts, plus he has a mild healing factor too, but that's about it. He never tries to take over the world, or stupid things like that. He at most tried to run criminal organizations that train new assassins, and he would like his children to follow in his footsteps. He had 2 sons and a daughter (Jericho and Ravager), his first son died on a job to kill the Titans, which is what started his vendetta against them (Slade is famously a terrible dad) . But, after they saved Jericho and he became a Titan, as did Ravager, Slade had to admit he respected Nightwing, so he is actually a reluctant ally of theirs for a few storylines, too.

So Jade knows the identity of Batman and Superman??? HOW?!? Why would they tell that to a bloody movie director? And since she is actually Slade, does that mean after this movie, he will sell this secret to every villain ever, meaning poor Lois and Alfred and Ma and Pa Kent are going to get kidnapped all the time?

BB Shockwave

I never disliked the Jesse Eisenberg Luthor - I mean, have you looked around who the world's richest people are today? The old style classic CEOs are still around but more and more Zuckerbergs and co. are popping up. Anyhow, Deathstroke actually WAS in the Justice League movie, and played by Joe Manganiello which is pretty good casting, pity that movie did not have a sequel.

BB Shockwave

That scene where Robin gleefully pushes in the Waynes into Crime Alley to be murdered then gives the thumbs up? Why does WB OK these things? It is incredibly tasteless... Also, wouldn't Bruce remember these Titans were present when his parents died?

BB Shockwave

Since the plot was about them wanting be seen as real heroes, they should have focused more about how in the Go series, they don’t do much hero work, and the message should have been the other heroes letting themselves get caught up in making movies where making the same mistake, and a ‘real hero’ is someone who fights to protect people.

Will Higgins

Man, I tried to forget seeing this movie, but the thumb scene brought up so many bad memories. Like, did they forget Slade could wipe the floor with these jokers easily without that? Also everyone who ever read DC comics knew that Jade Wilson will turn out as Slade Wilson.

Catra was so inconsistently written. I think at her core she was super jealous that Shadow Weaver always rewarded Adora and never noticed her effort, but she was also her friend (and in the S3 retcon, in love with her apparently, which came out of nowhere), so that she just completely went bonkers and was ready to destroy the whole universe so she can "win" just once. I feel the character should have been killed off there and then because there should have been no coming back from there. And I cannot imagine she was ever afraid of the Horde, when she pretty effortlessly beats emo Hordak and replaces him at the end. (Hordak, man, he sure got terribly emasculated in this show, being reduced to a failed clone wanting to make big brother proud, taking out his insecurities on others)

BB Shockwave

I think that beating up Shia to a pulp is a natural reaction to seeing him.

What about Catra? She showed signs of mental and emotional abuse to the point she was terrified of actually trying to leave the Hoarde even after Adora promised that she’d make sure nothing bad would happen to her and she’d protect her. You can tell that Catra wanted to accept Adora’s offer but was hesitant because she knew that the Hoarde would hunt her down and eventually punish her for her betrayal.

Kent Huang

The beat up Shia scene rules! It's too bad that the rest of the movie is mostly bad. Now to say what I've been saying about this movie when I first heard of it: For a show that everybody seems to hate it got its own movie. Great review! You guys rule just like that scene!

Texas Big Gal Cat Lover

Well, that'd have worked if the they actually portrayed the Evil Horde as some super evil oppressive military where people get broken and tortured, but we saw none of that. In fact, they come off as incredibly incompetent and their soldiers act like overly emotional teenagers, especially Scorpia (who looks like she is 40 but acts like a tween).

BB Shockwave

She-Ra I thought was fine. It gave some more depth to the villains and Adora/She-Ra learning how to live a new life free from abuse and scare tactics was pretty accurate to what real life survivors go through.

I recently watched the whole show. It is OK, has some good episodes, and crosses over with Batman Beyond a few times, but it is overall rather forgettable. Kinda like the Fugitive TV show, or the Hulk show.

BB Shockwave

He was in SAS, actually. Watch Pennyworth, it is a pretty good show about the post-SAS exploits of Alfred.

BB Shockwave

Robin would essentially disappear if he messed with Bruce's origins.

BB Shockwave

It think in the Teen Titans (the original show) crossover movie it is established these superdeformed freaks are not the same characters as those. They are in their own stupid universe (thankfully) outside the DCAU.

BB Shockwave

The writers clearly have zero knowledge of the characters and their personalities, the Titans are just skin-suits for the original characters this show was originally marketed as to be put on, so it can be sold. Same as Netflix She-Ra, or Velma, or Thundercats Roar.

BB Shockwave

The Pennyworth show was pretty good, it went kinda off tangent in S3 but overall I enjoyed it, same as Gotham. Batwheels is for little kids but it is good at what it does. TTG is pure crap though, unfunny and a mockery of the DC universe.

BB Shockwave

Raven is literally a Pegasister when you remember that she’s voiced by Tara Strong who also voices Twilight Sparkle. And Starfire is an alien version of Princess Bubblegum which is even more mind blowing when you realize that Starfire is also a princess and friends with a shapeshifter just like Bubblegum.

Kent Huang

The original series was excellent but Go is just awful. I only enjoyed one episode of the ones I had seen and that was the one where Beast Boy was kicked off the team and replaced by Jana of the Wonder Twins while Zan was forced to be the receptionist of the Tower and wasn’t allowed to fight alongside the rest of the team.

Kent Huang

All of the Lanterns would still exist no matter what as it is the Rings that choose their wearers and not the other way around. So Green Lantern would still get a movie no matter what.

Kent Huang

I heard it was on the first list of animated movies that were submitted to be nominated for the Beet Animated Film Oscar but didn’t make it past the first stage. I think we can all see why.

Kent Huang

I knew this movie was awful but I didn’t think it was THIS awful. I’m so confused as to why everyone praised it. It’s almost Emoji Movie-level bad!

InedibleDoh

I'm surprised you didn't make light of the fact that Alfred was once a member of MI5. A movie about Alfred would be awesome.

Red Paradox

The time travel issue, getting rid of Batman would also mean Robin ceases to exist, as a hero at least. I can see Dick Grayson turning to villainy to get revenge if Bruce hadn't taken him in. That would actually make for a better movie. They get back and notice Robin isn't with them, then they see who he became without Batman amd the otwhr heroes, so the remaining Titans have to fight their friend and fix the timeline while evil Robin tries to preserve his existence at all costs.

Alexis Dominey

Here's another thing to note about the time travel part: isn't it a bit of a stretch that NONE of the superheroes would exist if their origins were changed? The TMNT and Aquaman are understandable, maybe even Wonder Woman, but Batman and Superman? Couldn't there still be a slight chance that they could still become heroes, only this time, they were inspired by the "nice strangers" who helped their families? Another thing they failed to realize is, if Bruce Wayne never became Batman, that'd mean Dick Grayson NEVER BECAME HIS SIDEKICK! In other words, he'd never get a movie either way!

Sarah Sims

I know I shouldn't be surprised this series whole existent hinges on the success of the original show while also to not wanting to be connected to it but... (34:26) Was that music in the background an epic reworking of the ORIGINAL theme song not THEIR theme song?

Evie Rawlings

My twin brother ❤️ Teen Titans Go both The TV Series and Teen Titans Go To The Movies but I HATE IT

David

He was also called Slade given that the original series aired on Cartoon Network during the Toonami block which had a lot of kid friendly shows. The producers thought that the name Deathstroke was rather mature and too violent for a younger audience and thus the name change.

Kent Huang

HTF is it that The Teen Titans don't know who Slade is when in their previous series He was their most prominent SuperVillian and a personal nemesis to Robin The entire first and second season of The original Teen Titan Series was all about Slade trying to seduce Robin to The Dark Side and taking it personally when Robin refuses to the point where he repeatedly tries to ANNILATE THE TEEN TITANS

David

About the Jump City question, that is the city where the Teen Titans are situated. The original and superior series name drops their city as Jump City quite a bit.

Kent Huang

Well at least it wasn’t a theatrical movie of the lesser known Batman Beyond spin off The Zeta Project. I seriously didn’t know that thing even existed until a couple of years ago after watch someone on YouTube talking about the Batman Beyond series and I followed Batman Beyond and a lot of the cartoons on the WB animation block.

Kent Huang

There are tv shows about Alfred and the Batmobile called Pennysworth and Batwheels! Both are better than Teen Titans Go!

Daniel J

Honestly, I've gotta give the show and movie props for the deep cut references. The humor is obviously aimed at kids, but the references really are for the fans.
