I loved the opening so much! This is such a visually stunning anime so far and i've only just seen a glimpse of it all! Can't wait to see how else this anime impresses me. I'm also quite intrigued by the cultural practices shown so far and would love to learn more about this particular setting the anime is based in.
I loveeeee the chibis they throw into the mix of seriousness for that bit of humour, which is something that's always up my alley. Our MC is so sophisticated from the rest of the girls and I really enjoyed watching her mind piece together what the problem was. Can't wait to see more of Maomao's knowledge put to use now that she's the new lady-in-waiting!
I mentioned it reminds me a bit of One Piece Wano and also Demon Slayer Entertainment District, but also a bit of the Elusive Samurai.
A little bit more about this anime:
Maomao, an apothecary's daughter, has been plucked from her peaceful life and sold to the lowest echelons of the imperial court. Now merely a maid, Maomao settles into her new mundane life and hides her extensive knowledge of medicine in order to avoid any unwanted attention.
Not long after Maomao's arrival, the emperor's infant children inexplicably begin to experience grave symptoms—almost as if a curse has been cast. The curious Maomao easily solves the mystery and, to remain out of the limelight, attempts to leave an anonymous tip. Unfortunately, the dashing and perceptive eunuch Jinshi sees through it and manages to single her out.
In recognition of her talent, Maomao is promoted to lady-in-waiting for the emperor's favorite concubine, Gyokuyou. As Maomao continues to remedy the numerous ailments afflicting the imperial court, her pharmaceutical expertise quickly proves indispensable.

I don't watch a lot of anime in this genre so even the style of the opening song was surprising and refreshing. Not at all what I associated with anime openings. The visuals to go with it are gorgeous, too. It's one of my favourite openings I've seen in a while. Maomao is a great character. She's funny and clever and caring and cunning. I think you'll love her. It's great for me to see a female main character who isn't half naked all the time, y'know? This series and Frieren I watched for the first time this year so I've been blessed with great female characters who have depth beyond caring about whether or not it's ok to look cute if they want to be a fighter... maybe that just tells you the kinds of anime I usually watch lol. The setting of this series is very interesting and plays a big role in the story. The necessary etiquette, the hierarchy, the possibility of losing your life at any moment if you stand out for the wrong reasons... it's a highly charged environment that I think they portray well, but they manage to keep the show from getting too weighed down by it all. It seems like a fairly good representation of the period and the Chinese royal courts. I'm no expert, though.
