Yeah, being able to buy and sell women was tough on men. I think people forget that ROFL so sorry. I am joking, of course, but it is a more complicated situation than you think at first. Obviously, it in no way compares to women actually being belongings and, again, I was only joking above lol - my brain is on holiday. sorry

2025-01-15 03:45:38 +0000 UTCWhen it comes to Courtesans and the rules of the Brothel in this time, there's only what I know from the anime and it appears that buying one out is the most formal way to go about it but it gives the impression of possession over the courtesan. Now it did seem like Pairin would leave with Lihaku if she wanted, but I feel that would strip her or the brothel of any status/reputation? I'm not sure if that's possible or what the true implications would be. BUTTTT, I do agree that if he were to buy her out, to then give her the option to choose and in some way make it up to her as the man he wants to be to redeem that act of buying her out. Knowing he was two other men after her does add some pressure to the mix so who truly knows how that would affect his morals down the road. It's a tough call for sure...

He asked what kind of man would he be if he if he purchased his true love with another man's money. As you said, he does have a point but as far as he knows there are 2 other men who might be about to buy out Pairin, so I worry the kind of man he'll be is one who let his true love slip away because he let his pride get in the way of his clear opportunity. It's a tough call to make but the part I can clearly agree with is that he should actually find out what Pairin wants first. Unfortunately, they live in a world in which what a woman wants doesn't really matter when she can be bought and sold like cattle. Maybe the best compromise would be to buy her out and then ask her what she wants, and let her go free if that's what she chooses. It's impossible for me to imagine what I'd do since I have no experience of such a world, but I'm still interested to hear your thoughts. Is it better to use another man's money to buy a woman like an object and then try to spend the rest of your life dedicated to making sure she is happy and never resents you for your actions, or to risk her falling into an even worse fate as long as you have your own sense of honour and self-respect intact? I'm so glad times have changed.

Jinshi now knows Lihaku's only interest in Maomao is in helping him with Pairin.
