BTS being weird during encore stages | what is going ON inside their heads

I wanna explain these performances and the entire concept a bit clearer cause it can be a bit confusing and also maybe misleading when you just hear ”music show” and award show is not really quite what it is. So they DO do these encore stages when they win #1 and they get a trophy and award. It is not like a yearly award, it is a weekly chart show with live performances. Basically it is similar to how different radio stations and shows do those weekly charting lists and stuff, like say on a friday you get to hear the top 10 or 5 songs of the week based on your choice of chart or sales counting entity. Now take this concept onto TV and instead of just playing the songs in this chart list make it a live performances, and there is live audience voting somewhat affecting the outcome of who gets #1 that week. This is the basic concept, and there are like 5 of these shows every week on different days on different tv shows. Mnet, KBS, SBS and MBC are arguably the biggest tv stations/channels, and they all have their own versions of ”music shows”. Mcountdown, Music bank, Inkigayo and Show!Music core are the respective ones for those channels. It is a big deal to win, especially for artists who haven’t gotten their first win yet, but it is not the same as winning MAMA awards Artist of the year. This is weekly, based on the tv stations criteria that might include audience votes, sales, tv ratings, social media interaction etc in different ratios depending on the show. Back in MY DAYS *grumpy grandma sounds* 2015 BTS would do their promotions for their albums on these shows for sometimes 5 weeks straight. Meaning they would perform on one of these shows like tuesday to saturday every week for 5 weeks. Especially rookies or less popular artists come to the tv station at like 3 in the morning for rehearsals, and will stay the entire day even when they don’t have any rehearsals for a LONG time between morning and the evening when they perform. So they would have very long days and then maybe go do a fansign after this, get home at midnight to then go to the next tv station at 3-4am. And it is not good manners for a rookie to leave or not be alert to greet senior artists or even the staff of these shows. Things have changed a lot nowadays tho, BTS started shortening their promotional periods to 2 weeks and now that is basically the industry norm, and bts do go on these shows but the past few years they have done 1 week. So one performance per show, and since they have a LOT of seniority they don’t need to come in so early unless they do prerecording and stay for the live show.

the hyyh encore stages are so sweet to watch because back then, these wins were EVERYTHING to them. like, it can't be overstated... at that time bts was really on the verge of breaking up if they didn't start making some numbers... and then that first win with I need u came through like a miracle. in those days, every bit of recognition was so hard fought and you could see how happy and grateful they were. so yeah. these stages are some of my favorite just because the joy is so real
