Behind the Scenes: School Rooftop

Because of the story's move to a new location, I found myself assembling a number of new sets. With needing a place where Jack could look out on the surrounding neighborhood and think to himself (because every guy needs a place to be alone), I had to pull together a school rooftop.

As you can see by the below image, I took a base (a ported version of the rooftop from Artificial Girl 3) and did some work to give it a more unique look, including improving the concrete exterior and adding props and furniture. Also dropped in were a number of exterior street maps (from modders MakotoYui90 and Pondscum) to fill in the neighborhood.

One of the aspects of the rooftop that I wanted which proved difficult to reproduce was the addition of AC units. The original map (see above) didn't have any feature like that and there wasn't a quick way to recreate them efficiently.

So, I used some tricks with the RendererEditor plugin from joan6694 (see below) and another map (Urban Roof) that actually had the units. So, I took the second rooftop map, dropped it on top of the other and edited out the textures of everything except what I needed.

Here is the original map followed by a version with all the other detail modded out.

As you can see above, the isolated AC units drop in just fine as a part of the final set.

In the end, this set is littered with "Hollywood Magic" where I don't dare angle the camera in certain directions, lest you see all the seams. Still, it works great for the angles you've already seen in Chapter Nine.
