2018-12-27 19:17:02 +0000 UTCreally wish akira or mononoke would have won this is my least favorite miyazaki movie. idk why but i found it so borning. i mean totoro has almost nothing happening in it the whole movie and yet im completely captivated by every moment but spirited away does absolutely nothing for me. i fell asleep the first time i watched it, could even get through it.i could neevr understand this movies high praise aside from just being visually appealing i think akira and monoke would have been much more your style and a better fit. i can only hope that you do this again in the future and have a chance to react to these two amazing films!

2018-12-27 04:12:11 +0000 UTCWatching with you was my first time seeing this movie...some of the stuff you were confused about I've learned is part of the heritage or culture that I've learned watching anime or Asian Dramas...Howl's Moving Castle is still my favorite

2018-12-25 11:12:25 +0000 UTCSo my final score for the film is a 7 out if 10. I have sat down and thought about it and the film has a lot of wonderful elements that make it stand out. Amazing animation with creativity behind every character. A wonderful score and great voice acting. All things that allow the film to be remembered. The reason I give it a 7 and not higher is becuase in the end with didnt get many answers, the overall story although started interesting and intriguing in the end just kind of ended. The filmed moved rapidly down the stretch and I felt we were just pushing along instead of getting to know what was happening. I felt that the movie was a metaphor for something and after doing some research I was right but it didnt really raise the score for me. The whole consumption and greed angle was well established but in the end what did it all mean? Did she love Hiku because he was the spirit in the water? Was the a connection we were supposed to understand better? We never got why he was so helpful to her yet people spoke of him out of fear. At one point he is called a henchman. What was the NoFace a metaphor of? Why did he stay with the sister at the end? What was up with the slime monster? Why did that matter? Also why did what she get out if it do the things it did? Why would she think its food?ย These were just a few of the questions I was left with and didnt feel good abouy them after. I feel some of these should have been easy to figure out.ย I mean I could have missed something and be completely wrong about it all. I have looked up other reviews after and can see I'm one of very few that had these problems. So maybe I just approached the film wrong. I enjoyed my time with it but just did not see the praise for it to be called the Best Anime Film of All Time.
