No, I get what you mean about the powers coming in, it really changes what the show seems to be about up to this point. Like you said, the show was about 2 regular guys, brothers (what's more normal than that?) spending their lives fighting evil. Giving Sam magical powers takes him from being a regular guy (which really kind of amps up his hero status) to being superhuman. It's just a different moral. But anyway, you of course now know where the story ends up with that so :P My one little thing about this episode was Sam's comment at the end about their dad: I like that he was able to do some self-reflecting and realize their dad and their childhood could actually have been a lot worse (because we've previously seen Sam gripe about it all) so I think that's great character development and shows him growing up a little bit. But what I want to add is that people don't beat up children because they drink alcohol, they beat up children because their dickless assbags. So I wouldn't say that if John had drank more, Dean and Sam might have experienced more abuse.

the powers are magic related. the telekinesis is really no different than ghosts being able to fling someone across the room.

TheMew

I'm sure people have mentioned this, but they usually do something different for the season finale previously on. I cant remember if they do for this season, but watch out for it when you get there.

I laughed out loud at the look on your face a couple of times during this episode. You're not sure if you like the Powers stuff? I thought you were into Superhero's. Superhero's always have Powers, don't they? This should be right up your alley then. ;) And the special effects were really good, not bad. Back in 2005, low budget, on film - not digital. Pretty good in my opinion. I really liked the effect of the knife popping the tear bubble in stepmom's eye. The big reveal was that both Max and Sam had the same thing happen to them when they were 6 months old. I was really shocked when I saw this for the first time. What is this all about? The mystery is just getting more complex and involved. The scene where Dean gets shot was actually filmed with more effect - actually showing the back of Dean's head explode. Back on the Powers thing. Generally, I'm similar with you. Some of the superhero shows get too hokey, and it's nice to see Real People be superhero's, without any special help.

I really enjoyed your reaction. This is one of my favourite S1 episodes. I felt similar to you about Sam's powers when I originally watched it but I liked where they went with it so hopefully you will too. You're absolutely right about Dean. He is worried about his brother but is deflecting and trying to hide how he truly feels from Sam. I also liked how the brothers talked about how they could've possibly turned out if their father had turn more to alcohol rather than hunting, especially that it was Sam who brought it up with the issues he has with his dad.
