The destruction of a political career with just one word, the off screen rivalry between Brits and Americans, the arrogance of the British representing the entire planet. Love it! Love this episode. Love the new doctor. And Boxing Day, is the day after Christmas in UK. I don’t remember why it’s called that way.

2019-02-18 04:23:49 +0000 UTCSo first, she did not kill the entire species, she just destroyed 1 ship, the leader said "I can summon the armada" meaning lots of other ships (probably at least one planet too, though maybe not). Torchwood is a spin off you are correct, but the spin off doesn't start yet (I think it ran in the off season between Series 2 and Series 3 but not certain). Also the Doctor's 6 words "Don't you think she looks tired?" is what started the "rumors" about her health, that and her reaction to the words, I personally think if she had just stood there stoic while the others walked off her carrier would not have been ended. Also did you notice how much the Torchwood weapon looked like the Death Star firing? I think they might have drawn on that for inspiration to raise the unsettling feeling that you are supposed to have as she mercilessly slaughters a ship of fleeing individuals.
