Buffy The Vampire Slayer "Ted" 2x11 Reaction

I remember the 1st time I watched this and a little while after I didnt like this episode but recently and through this run though I've changed my view on it to being pretty darn good and honestly I think me not liking it had to do with my age then and seeing more of Ritters work since then. I used to only think of him as the Threes Company guy and the ham sitcom actor but since I see how good he was. Also you were right the acting from everyone else is so good too.💜

I’ve always read it that way as well. The camera angle seems very deliberate. Joss Whedon’s shows are famous for their irony cut.

I actually do my scores before I watch your reactions, based on what I remember of the episode. But this was one episode I had to go back and change my rating. I initially gave it a fairly low one but on re-watch it was actually pretty good.

Do you want the answer to when to start watching Angel: The Series? This has never been my favorite, but it's got some good moments. ETA: I don't think the dangling feet were deliberate, but what an interesting observation about the edit. Another interesting point, the episode after Kendra left and Buffy was all about getting her angry to be more effective as a Slayer... then Buffy loses her temper and believes she killed someone. And could have if he'd been human, which is why she took it so seriously. She has superpowers, and she let them out of her control.

Coincidentally both Sarah and John Ritter both had the flu during the filming of the episode. I remember reading an interview with John that appeared back in the original Watcher's Guide, and he was laughing about them having to run back and forwards to their trailers between scenes.

I'm glad you liked the episode! It isn't widely well-regarded but I've always found it to be emotionally effective and super scary. I mean how is SMG so good at crying. I imagine Joyce's seeming underreaction in that scene at the end as her not wanting to escalate the situation. If your partner starts acting threateningly and has complete physical advantage over you, the thing to do is remain calm and attempt to talk yourself out of the situation before freaking out.

This is one of those Buffy eps could have been terrible but it was done right. RIP John Ritter! Ahhh wee so close to the amazing storyline

Yes it was an old game show where contestants tried to guess the job of a person by asking questions and getting vague funny answers.

I will keep repeating this every time you bring this up. Angel being 26 is a retcon that was necessary because the actor at one point looked to old to play a guy in his early 20. Which is the age he is supposed to be at this point in the story.

Wow, you were very intuitive, you almost immediately guessed that Ted wa a robot. On rewatch you can catch all the references to it, his coworker refers to him as “the machine”, Joyce says each house should have one of him, Ted says about himself he’s not wired that way. You were right about the transition from the dinner scene when Buffy says she feels like killing herself cut to her balancing feet. It is deliberate. Once again good catch.

Yeah, I always thought Jenny's reaction after the demon possession was played really well - showing that these characters are human, and sometimes, no matter how much supernatural and weird you see and experience, something is gonna freak you out and take some time.. I like that they let Jenny feel what she needed to feel, it all felt valid to me. As much as my heart hurt for Giles. I'm always so happy at the end of this episode that Jenny is finally able to start moving past the trauma.

John Ritter is incredible in this episode. I think in the hands of a lesser actor, this storyline could've been awful but he is so good at switching between "citizen of the year" to intimidating and threatening.

"what's my line" was about the career tests they were doing, and buffy feeling like it was pointless for her to 'play what's my line, because she has a destiny and no choice in her future.' and Angel got stabbed through the hand during the ritual to cure Dru, remember? I have the flu, i feel your groggy-pain!

Yes, Ms. Calendar ends up possessed by a demon, tries to kill people she likes and then, from her point of view is nearly killed by Angel. I can see her needing a break. Also she was introduced as a "techno pagan", so she knows stuff but probably had not faced stuff.

Ms. Calendar may have signed up for danger, but she didn’t sign up to have a demon take over her body. A demon that Giles helped create. As for Buffy being upset, almost anyone would feel some kind of way after killing someone, even if that person deserved it, it is still a traumatic event. Soldiers kill people all the time, people they believe they’re killing in self defense and they still have ptsd. She thinks she killed a real person, not a monster that explodes into dust and disappears. She also thinks she killed someone that her mom was in love with or at least cared about. She loves her mom and doesn’t want to see her mom sad.😊
