I am so happy that you are doing smallville reactions! It was the original for the comic book superhero show, but yes, there are some very cheesy moments that just make you cringe. However, it is still a great and very iconic show. The casting was very well done which makes watching the bad episodes watchable. I can't wait to watch the rest of your reactions!

Don't know where you got this copy....but it is missing a whole lot.

Smallville is a mixed bag, there's a lot of good but unfortunately a lot of bad/mediocre. When it's good it's great, but the stinkers really stink but there's always at least a little bit of something to get out of every stinker at least. Just get used to a lot of dancing around "keeping the secret" for seasons on end lol

This show gets so much better overall. I agree with you that this villain was very anti-climatic. However, it's really good. I love Clark, Lex, and Jonathan and Martha Kent. They're such great characters. As for Lex's line about his future with Clark... it's a way of foreshadowing what's to come with their futures being intertwined and Lex becoming Superman's nemesis. It's brilliant! Thank you very much for this reaction, and I hope to see more episode reactions for Smallville from you in the future. Until next time...

it's probably a "original broadcast" versus "syndication version" type of issue. For syndication, episodes need to fit into nice little timeboxes to have enough room to air ads during the hour. A few years ago I bought the Friends Complete Box on Blu-ray and was very disappointed because the pilot episode seemed to be missing a third of its running time. I checked your timestamps. From the moment you press play (9:06) to the beginning of the end credits (53:44), your episode is 44:38. The DVD pilot is 49:18 excluding the end credits (50:08 total).

Apart from a few minor edits, it's too bad they cut two important father-and-son moments. The first one was where Pa Kent explained why exactly he didn't like the gift for his son and the second one was a round-off to the episode with callbacks to the opening sequence and the alien reveal. Luckily there are sites that have the transcripts so I don't need to type it all up. Scene 1) Clark: It's not like the Luthors can't afford it. Jonathan: [ Sighs ] Do you want to know why that is? Do you remember Mr. Bell? We used to go fishing on his property. How about Mr. Guy? He used to send us pumpkins every Halloween. Well, Lionel Luthor promised to cut them in on a deal. He sent them flashy gifts. Once they'd sold their property, he went back on his word. He had them evicted, son. Clark: So you're judging Lex on what his father did? Jonathan: No, Clark, I'm not. I just want to make sure that you know where the money came from that bought that truck. [ Sighs ] Clark, I know you're upset, son, but it's normal. Scene 2) Jonathan: Your grandfather gave me that telescope when I was about your age. I came downstairs for breakfast one morning, and there it was. Are you okay? Clark: Can I answer that in about five years? [ Chuckles ] Yeah. Dad... I'm glad you and Mom were the ones that found me. Jonathan: We didn't find you, Clark. You found us.

WTF, Why would they cut any of this stuff?

Steven Merced

OK, your pilot is definitively cut for time. When Clark was watching Lana's cheerleading he was imagining himself to be the football star. This scene is also gone. <a href="https://66.media.tumblr.com/fb6fe3073346ead47a90572f4f5655dc/tumblr_pql30gEw1w1tu2mzao1_1280.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://66.media.tumblr.com/fb6fe3073346ead47a90572f4f5655dc/tumblr_pql30gEw1w1tu2mzao1_1280.png</a>

I checked and they even moved the credits around for this. Here you can see the original scene and the John Glover credit: <a href="https://66.media.tumblr.com/79bd80695240d68610be036f605d5019/tumblr_pql2r2h84h1tu2mzao1_1280.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://66.media.tumblr.com/79bd80695240d68610be036f605d5019/tumblr_pql2r2h84h1tu2mzao1_1280.png</a> <a href="https://66.media.tumblr.com/3183d1448d8c18208b4670c5663e20c4/tumblr_pql2r2h84h1tu2mzao2_1280.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://66.media.tumblr.com/3183d1448d8c18208b4670c5663e20c4/tumblr_pql2r2h84h1tu2mzao2_1280.png</a> And this is the John Glover credit in your version: <a href="https://66.media.tumblr.com/dfcbd738118739d66f3226ac608e418d/tumblr_pql2r2h84h1tu2mzao3_1280.png" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://66.media.tumblr.com/dfcbd738118739d66f3226ac608e418d/tumblr_pql2r2h84h1tu2mzao3_1280.png</a>

Fascinating. Smallville is one of my favourite shows despite its flaws and I know the pilot by heart. So I was suprised that your streaming version was cut for no aparant reason. When Chloe and Pete ride the bus at the beginning there's a short sequence where Clark jumps on the bus and down the other side and disappears into the field. Chloe heard the thump and it's mentioned in the next scene at the school ground. Yet both these snippets are missing even though they are merely 10 seconds long. I wonder why. I have to check if some credit line disappeared as well.
