Ah, the soul arguments lol I can see both sides because you'd never know if he might change back but it's a better plan for now because if they can turn him then they take out Angelus as a threat to get Acathla going again. It gives Buffy more options. I think it's supposed to split the audience (I don't think that it's a coincidence that it's 3v3). Buffy and Willow's motives are pretty clear, I think. Giles wants to honour Jenny's last act BUT also it is his job to support Buffy. I think he is on her side anyway but he kind of has to be. He didn't go out with Jenny for weeks for the same reason (he sure set up a date quickly after finding out Buffy had told her he missed her!). Also, about the Giles v Xander shouting match. Giles has to still be very sensitive about the subject of Jenny and the way Xander said it set him off I think, rather than what he said. I think Xander might have found a slightly more tactful way to say it!! Although that's not really Xander ;) It was only two episodes ago when Giles was thinking Jenny was haunting the school and wasn't thinking clearly so I give him a pass for losing his rag here.

2020-08-17 18:40:23 +0000 UTCSince you've already been introduced to Faith it's not a spoiler. But I'm with you because when I was at this point during my first viewing of the show I thought Buffy was blinded so much by her love for Angel that it just got super annoying and it turned me off of her as a character. I was pissed when Kendra died because I knew it would happen once she popped back up out of nowhere. I hated Buffy because all these sacrifices happened because she won't just kill Angel. Xander was me in the episode and I was super pissed that everyone was siding with Buffy because she was the protagonist and yet Xander is the bad guy despite Angel being THE BAD GUY. I hated Buffy for a long time as a character, once they introduced Faith I was 100% against Buffy lol

2019-07-28 18:30:56 +0000 UTCDrusila is a rather unique vampire, and initially the intended Big Bad of the season.

2019-07-04 22:25:35 +0000 UTCAngel didn’t know or he wouldn’t have, he loved Buffy too much. And I’m sure Darla was a worse serial killing, having far longer to do it, though Angelus had flare that brought him great noterirty.

2019-07-04 22:22:35 +0000 UTCJust thought I'd throw my two cents in about Kendra and how I justify her dying so apparently easy here... Well, earlier in the episode, they show a younger Buffy just learning how to fight vampires. She wasn't very good at first, but as time went on, she's become stronger. But this strength took time and her fighting level gradually improved. Kendra, having only been activated when Buffy "died"... makes me think she hasn't had time to fully evolve into the skilled slayer that Buffy currently is. She's been a slayer for less time, so she'd be less skilled than Buffy at fighting, though still far stronger than the average person. Ultimately, I think the show (especially early on) tends to base character strength on whatever is needed to push the script along. Like when Buffy and Kendra first meet - they seemed pretty evenly matched. But if the show 'needs' a character to be weak to move the narrative, then they make them weak, many times without an explanation.

2019-06-24 19:35:20 +0000 UTCI know this was ages ago, but I'm putting my own two cents on the Angel/Angelus debate: A soul is part of the person, but not the whole. The whole part of the person is the soul and the essence. The soul holds the conscience/including some better aspects of personality. However the main seat of person's personality is the essence. (Otherwise why do vampires in this show all have personalities?) I don't think a fully fledged demon takes over the person's body, but one fetal (?) merges with the person's essence and then a new demon is born. The problem with Angel's curse is Angel's soul was probably safe and whole somewhere, but now that it got tied back to his body, the soul, like the essence, is tainted with the demon, which now is his darker self/ alter ego, but not quite not him. So... the question no-one was still asking is answered! Yay?

2019-06-10 04:31:19 +0000 UTCin this episode. Like Whisperer monologued at the end it's the choices you make after the big moments happen that count. Buffy's big moment was losing yet another person to Angelius and what choices she'll make next. Someone had to die so Kendra was basically brought back to die in the place of any of the scooby gang. Julie Benz played Darla in Buffy, Layla in Supernatural, and Rita in Dexter. Layla was the girl who had brain cancer in Faith, the episode where Dean electrocuted himself and was dying so Sam found the faith healer who's wife was usina reaper to kill people she didn't like and save the people Roywas healing.

2019-05-12 22:48:02 +0000 UTCI love watching your reaction to this and I love that you love Xander and agreed with his position on resouling Angelius. Xander is a favorite of mine and I could see both sides to the arguement. Kendra was the red shirt

2019-05-12 22:34:13 +0000 UTCSteven, I love you man. Big part of the fandom hate Xander and love Angel. I agree Xander most of the time. Angel is the most horrible serial killer in history that phucks 16 year old virgin. And I think he knew the risk, though giving all the hints is impossible at the moment.

2019-05-07 08:38:26 +0000 UTCThis episode does kind of discard Kendra. Interesting to see the response to the restoring the soul ... and the Q of redemption. I tend to view them as disparate characters inhabiting the same human "template", as it were. Agree with the "but he could turn again point." One thing I was wondering, and I'm not sure it has been discussed, is to the notion of where Angel's actual soul is - if that should factor into the restoration. If it is in in peace in a "heaven" or if is in "hell" or limbo or something. This episode also introduces us to the fact that there might be some higher "good" purpose behind Angel (which of course the scooby gang don't know about) - another factor.

2019-05-07 06:41:57 +0000 UTCSO Cool! first reactor that I’ve seen, agree with Xander! So, so interesting!!! Like, every single reactor I’ve watched, disagree wholeheartedly with Xander, and actually get very annoyed (and strongly dislike) him, and his hate for Angel/Angelus. It’s what I love about reactions as a whole, not everyone is the same and has the same thoughts and feelings. ❤️❤️

2019-05-05 22:45:43 +0000 UTCThe bit Xander does with the fish sticks and Oz saying "I thought it was riveting, I was a little unclear on some of the themes" seems like a Joss dig on Go Fish.

2019-05-05 19:46:57 +0000 UTCDifficult to rate this episode on its own. It’s pretty much set-up. The best parts for me the first time were the flashbacks and the argument in the library between the “scoobies”. I think that both points of view have value. If you are willing to accept that the ensouled Angel is not responsible for the action of the demon inside of him, you can argue for him to be cursed again. After all the possibility for him to be perfectly happy was extremely slim to begin with. It’s the nature of the curse. Angel said it himself, he is constantly tortured by his guilt for the things the demon has done. It took almost 100 years and whatever he felt when he made love with Buffy to overcome his guilt for a moment. I’ve always thought that if they managed to restore his soul, the fact that he is now aware that he could loose it by being happy, would make it even more impossible to be perfectly happy ever again.

2019-05-05 19:44:54 +0000 UTCIn this universe the vampires are possessed by a demon. So it's literally a killing machine without conscious. Giving Angelus a soul turns him into someone who can discern right from wrong and has a choice. So this goes beyond a simple Angel is the same as Angelus cause he isn't. It's his body but the demon is driving. It goes beyond split personalities it's two separate entities. So no matter what Angelus will never have remorse and will just kill. Restoring the vampire soul because he was human and had a soul it's just restored he becomes something more and completely separate from Angelus even though most people will see him as a monster regardless which is pretty simple minded cause it's all gray area here

2019-05-05 16:51:28 +0000 UTCsorry, I hit post before I’d finished. Xander while not wrong with what he said, can never be objective with it comes to Angel/us. He’s not liked him from the start, partly because he had a crush on Buffy, and she was all about Angel. So it’s hard to accept what he says without wondering if he’s saying it due to hatred and jealousy. I do think the whole cursing Angelus will a soul is an unjust punishment though. Because it’s the soul, the man that suffers, not the demon. He’s just chilling inside Angel watching reruns of his greatest hits, while Angel suffers for what the demon did.

2019-05-05 14:46:18 +0000 UTCSeason two will always be my favourite season mainly due to the Angelus arc. For me he was the ultimate villain. As for the whole should they resoul Angelus argument, I can see both sides, even though they are both steeped in selfishness. Buffy loves Angel, Xander hates him. I think if someone other than Xander had made the argument, Oz for example, that they shouldn’t try to recurse Angelus and he needs to pay for what he’s done, it might have gone over better with Buffy, Giles, and Willow.

2019-05-05 14:41:26 +0000 UTCI do see both sides of the issue. However, you would think Xander would have a little more insight due to his hyena possession. He missed out on the killing and eating of principal Fluty but he would have done it and he did get all rapey with Buffy. He remembers everything but was immediately forgiven when he was unpossessed. I know Angelus did way worse things but . . . just sayin’.

2019-05-05 14:20:04 +0000 UTCDid you call Buffy a moron? I get the impression you don't like her character very much :/ Also, Xander isn't thinking rationally at all. He's motivated by nothing but revenge. A rational strategy would be to attempt the curse again if nothing else as a backup plan in case Angelus beats Buffy in a fight and she can't stop him from awakening Acathla.

2019-05-05 07:33:58 +0000 UTCAngel is after Season 3... After that basically episode of Buffy Season 4 then Episode of Angel Season 1 alternating.

2019-05-01 20:04:03 +0000 UTCAlso, Angelus is a great villian for the show

2019-05-01 12:51:37 +0000 UTCThe reason Kendra had to die/the repercussions actually becomes more apparent in season 3. Angel/AngelAngelus are 2 different people, is the best way to look at it. Like Nick said above, getting Angel back = ganing an ally

2019-05-01 12:49:29 +0000 UTCI"m not a fan of Buffy and Angel together, but Angel didn't kill anyone, Angeles did. That's why Xander was a bit extreme and mostly just jealous. Thanks for all of your Buffy reactions. :) I look forward to them every week.! :D

2019-05-01 10:53:19 +0000 UTCAngel starts after season 3 / parallel to Buffy 4

2019-05-01 06:45:40 +0000 UTCI love the angel/angelus debate. There are no right or wrong answers here. Everyone has a different point of view. I prefer to see both sides though. I see xanders side because he can't see angel and angelus as 2 different people and technically he's right because Angel remembers all the evil things angelus did and he sees himself as the one who did them but interestingly angelus refers to them as different people as he's ashamed of having to feel. I actually think angelus did angels character a favour here because now we can maybe have a better understanding of why Angel is so withdrawn and depressed all the time. Can you imagine doing all those terrible things and then suddenly caring.? I also understand Buffy. Although a part of it is about her feelings toward Angel, that's why she couldn't kill him before but after Jenny it became too real for her and shes mostly prepared to kill him if she has to. As for Kendra, I know she's not a main character so it wasn't as shocking as miss calendar but it was still very sad just when I was starting to warm to her. Also to answer your questions, Darla is Angels sire and Angel the series starts in season 4 of Buffy. Great reaction. So excited for the next one

2019-04-30 21:38:25 +0000 UTCI think an argument can be made, Angel and Angelus are not the same person and one shouldn’t be held responsible for the other’s actions. I believe that is how Buffy, Willow and Giles see it. So if they can destroy Angelus, rid themselves of an enemy and bring back angel, gaining an ally...they see that as another option. So that don’t have to try and fight him or stop Acathla if he gets woken up. In the episode Lie to me, buffy tells ford that he’s not really getting to live forever if he’s turned. He dies and a demon sets up shop in his old body. But there’s also been instances in the show where they kinda go against that pov... so who knows.
