Ha! Same reaction I had - Giles must be an INCREDIBLE kisser lol Interesting factoid for those of you who can remember the Gold Blend/Tasters Choice adverts (look them up on you tube!). Anthony Stewart Head plays the guy and I saw an interview between him and the woman where she said he was an incredible kisser. :D Whereupon he dissolved into embarrassed laughter.

You really need to stop watching the remasters. They're completely screwed up... That scene between Xander and Buffy where he tells her to kick Angel's ass is not supposed to be happening in daylight. Same with the whole ending fight... totally ruins the whole thing. I have no idea why these are on Netflix (I gather that's what you're watching).

I still cry when that damn song comes on at the end... im not even a bangel shipper anymore and havn't been for years lol, but still cry. Every single Spike scene is gold this episode... as usual!

Snyder was just such a great unforgiving a-hole and yet his actions had a purpose and weren't just for the sake of being mean. Interestingly, Armin Shimerman did all these Buffy episodes at the same time he was a main character on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. How can you not like Principal Snyder? I love him. I think he´s hilarious. His purpose is comedic relief. Also, yes, it always pissed me off how easily Kendra was killed by Drusilla and none of the Scoobies even give a shit that she´s dead. Like what? Poor Kendra.

Hmmm... this is the first time I've watched someone rooting for the villains. It's... interesting. I also love the bad guys, but I suddenly feel really bad for Buffy. lol

You might be the only person I've seen who liked episode one better. I can see why because everyone likes Evil Angel more. And I'm not a super fan of Buffy and Angel. But I still love the ending. It's not about their relationship as much as what she's willing to sacrifice. She is a true hero going forward. I watched this live when it aired and as a teenager I looked up to Buffy because of this moment.

It might be because I've watched this a million times or maybe I just love asshole characters, but I cackle at all of Snyder's and Cordelia's lines. I mean some of his first lines, "I know Principal Flutie would have said, 'Kids need understanding. Kids are human beings.' That's the kind of woolly-headed, liberal thinking that leads to being eaten." I think they make him really extreme to make fun of the mean principal trope, which was way past cliche in 1997.

Just FYI, I'm not a big fan of the Angel you've seen so far, but Angel is one of my favorite characters on his own show (he's got really stiff competition). I see this Angel as like the classic superhero's love interest whose primary characteristics are loving the hero and showing their chest a lot. He gets better.

The thing about Angel redeeming himself has never seemed that big a thing for me. He did many more terrible things for the first hundred years he was a vampire and was definitely able to make amends by helping Buffy and risking his life to do good. The comparison with addicts is okay, but addicts still have a soul when they choose to do the awful things they do, whereas Angelus doesn't even have that benefit. So if addicts can be redeemed after choosing while impaired to do horrible things, which they can, all the more so can someone who didn't even have a moral compass to rely on. Anyway...that's a lot of thoughts for a two decades-old fictional television character. ;)

Yeah, I think your distinction between watching B2 without knowing about Angel's spinoff vs knowing about it is a good one. Mind you, I was 17 when this ep first aired, and very *into* the whole star-crossed lovers thing, so I'd probably have been affected at the time even if I had known, but...yeah, it was a real killer back in the day. Particularly because they'd established (in B1) that demons basically walked around happy-fun-times in hell, whereas anyone with a soul would experience eternal torment. Fuck me sideways you know? LOVED your reaction to the Spuffy team-up, that never stops being fun as hell, honestly. As for Joyce, I tend to sympathize with her more as I get older. I mean, I really don't think there's any excuse for the whole "if you walk out" nonsense but, like, its soooooo easy to fuck up as a parent, and she'd just been thrown into the deep end of rhe ocean. Normal world w a daughter who maybe acts out and gets into fights etc (oh, side note: "history of violence" was probably in reference to the arson, yeah, but also, like, School Hard and Ted, stuff like that that went on record), and then all of the sudden she's dumped into a place where her daughter is literally responsible for SAVING THE WORLD lolol. It's got to be the biggest mind fuck ever, so I think an overreaction is understandable. So much I enjoyed about your reaction here, and I'm dying to do the winky sort if spoiler -- but won't. Season 3 hits some good high notes, I think you'll like. Can't wait for more! :D

Perfect season finale. It has everything: twists, humor, action and of course emotional resonance. Even though you know that there’s a spin-off show with Angel and that Buffy is not leaving forever, you can still be affected by the important moments in this episode, which are the culmination of Buffy’s growth throughout this season. The “coming out” scene with her mom, the self affirming “me” when she blocks the sword and hit Angel back and of course the decision to sacrifice Angel to save the world. SMG is fantastic in those scenes. Angelus was a great villain! The scenes at Buffy’s house with Spike and her mom were hilarious.

I know it's impossible but I do sorta wish that reactors didn't know about the spinoff until it happens for precisely that reason. Good reaction all the same :)

I couldn't say anything before, but I think the only way the show could redeem Angel was to kill him,not Angelus. I was never really into the Buffy/Angel love story as there was no build up to their relationship. In season 1 especially, he just turned up and gave some random warning and before you know it, she's in love. It's like "where did that come from, did I miss something" lol. Ironically I only got invested in them when Angelus came a long but I thought the ending where she stuck the sword in him was heartbreaking yet I agree, it ruins it a little knowing about the spinoff. As for Snyder, I think he'll grow on you and that's not a spoiler. He's a jerk but I think shows need someone like him to ruffle a few feathers lol. My favourite bit was Spike and Joyce. They shouldn't fit well together but they just do. I'm so excited for season 3. It's my personal favourite, only because I think it's the most consistent in terms of solid episodes. Great reaction as always!

I'll admit I didn't like Principal Snyder the first time through. The person who introduced me to Buffy was always delighted when he came on screen and I, like you Steven, just didn't get it. After rewatching the show when it was on Netflix and now Hulu, I started to appreciate his character and now he's one of my favorites. He's a fan favorite so I'm sure you'll get more comments defending Principal Snyder. I'm not saying you have to like Synder's character, I didn't the first time around, but to call him useless is simply untrue. I know you pay close attention and remembering subtle hints of shadiness going on with the principal behind the scenes are easy to forget. I will defend your right to not like him as a character, but I gotta defend my man Synder as well. Excited for you to start season 3!
