I feel like you tend to miss a lot of things Hal does. He's always working a nameless boring job. He understands the kids better than Louis (shown by when he knew Dewy would be hiding in the crawlspace and where to pick Francis up in the other episode. Plus, probably the biggest thing, he's always trying to get them to look at the positive side of things. Louis losing her job probably freaks him out just as much as the others, but, he knows that, if he freaks out, they'll only be more scared.
