i say it on every reaction of this episode - but i wish spike had been around for this one. I would have ADORED seeing spike, ripper and teen joyce hanging out, smoking and drinking, listening to music, robbing clothes haha! it would have been SO good. Its the one thing missing for me lol

The whole thing of where are the vampires when all the adults are teenagers is they're not there because someone told them not to be. I always took it as something or someone scarier told them to lay off because there was a purpose behind all this. That person seemingly being the mayor....which implies that the mayor has a lot of influence, possibly power....like when you asked why doesn't Trick kill the mayor....hmmmmm..... Also, fun fact, the accent that Giles uses as Ripper is more of Anthony Stewart Head's actual accent. He changes his accent for the character of Giles.

I agree with your entire comment. :)

Well I for one LOVE the fact that you weren’t falling for any of Buffy’s petty stuff! Reactor after reactor tends to always be on Buffy’s side, and thinks Buffy can just about do no wrong, which as a watcher is a little annoying, makes you start resenting that character a little. Sure Buffy is the main protagonists and is a hero, but she’s still vulnerable to human mistakes and flaws. But hey, everyone has their own opinions,🤷🏼‍♀️ Just wanted to say how much I appreciate and respect your outspokenness. Especially on the Angel front. Also, the fact the Xander is one of your favorite characters is kind of awesome...? I know I’m doing a lot of comparing, but seriously, one thing I’ve learned while watching various reactors watch Buffy for the first time, is that Xander is never a very popular character. Quite the contrary people tend to resent him, and his feelings towards Angel. Love that I’m seeing such contrasting opinions from you! Makes it SO SO interesting and fun to watch! Hope this all makes sense! 👍👏

This episode does what Season 3 does so well, where even the episodes that may come off as "filler" advances the overall story arc. We get to learn about the Mayor. This the first season where we get some of the strongest writers becoming permanent fixtures in the writing staff including Jame Espenson, Douglas Petrie, and David Fury and it shows.

Yeah, Demon-of-Convenience is convenient, and that's about it. I figured they started with, "Hey, let's turn grown-ups into teenagers" then came up with the quickest excuse they could for it.

The first Jane Espenson episode! So much funny quotes! Did you notice how Giles accent changed when he was a teenager?

That was always my take on it as well. I never was quite happy with the tribute and demon for the reasons that he had said but I I also didn’t really consider that the focus so it didn’t really bother me that much.

I never thought this episodes “Big Bad” was the demon, which is why I assumed they didn’t make such a big deal about it. More like it’s part of a slow unveiling of the evil of the mayor.

Collector of Stuff

One of my favorite "fun" episodes. After all, most of us don't/didn't consider our parents were adolescents at one point too. I especially appreciate this epi now that i have kids (who all love Buffy btw) lol. Its a 9 for me :)))

Joe's Mama

Your face when you first saw Buffy driving!!! 😂😂😂😂 I nearly died LOLOLOL. Totally agree on the ending of this ep, particularly on the Big Bad for it. Ethan was a fun character of course, but the rest of the plotting was an obvious throwaway excuse for the rest. Still, sometimes "the rest" is worth it, and imo, this is one of those cases. Loved your reaction, can't wait for the next! 😀

This is such a fun episode! I loved seeing Giles as Ripper and Schneider is hilarious. I kind of wished he kept eating the chocolate though lol. I agree, the babies and the demon slowed it down a bit for me but the rest of it was so good, I choose to just go with it. Also you mentioned that you were surprised that the Mayor was bad, but there were some subtle hints before that suggested he was evil, like in becoming part 2 when the principle expells Buffy and he gets on the phone and says "tell the mayor I have good news". From then on we assumed we would meet him at some stage and there would be something off about him. Finally, the Willow and Xander thing makes me cringe, even today, but I'm pretty sure the writers wanted us to feel that way about them otherwise they would have probably gotten them together in S1. Enjoyed your reaction to this
