I always thought Buffy’s score was a rare mess up on Joss’ part. She could have been brighter than expected, without being a super genius as there has been no indication of that at all and in fact many examples of the opposite.

I love the weird ending of Spike driving off to My Way. I adore the contrast of it. With most shows you really wouldn't expect it, but this episode revels in the fact that our heroes end the episode basically miserable because of love, while our lovely villain Spike drives off into the sunset with his own faith in that respect restored. That is all kinds of fabulous.

yes it is multiple choice as you have pointed out, but you lose points for guessing incorrectly. It is better to now answer a question then it is to guess on the question, which is why it would fall under the umbrella of "certainty" that Buffy has to deal with every day for her survival.

Most multiple choice tests have obviously wrong answers that allow you to get it down to two possible answers, the SAT answers tend to be more like 3 or 4 reasonable sounding answers so if you don't know then it's not 50-50. Not as tough as short answer questions but the SAT does a good job of not making the correct answer easy to spot by comparing it to the other choices.

This season gets so much better now that the Xander/Willow stuff has finally come to a head. That sub plot was so annoying and I don't know anyone who thought it wasn't. It could have ended up the same if it was done with a lot more subtlety.

I love this season and this episode because it shows audiences that these characters are human, especially Willow and Xander and they make mistakes like everyone else. Everyone wants them to stay sweet and innocent and perfect and that’s just not realistic or fair. The affair makes me like them even more because I hate how people put them on a pedestal. No, Willow from season one wouldn’t have an affair, but she has been through things since then and she is getting older and will continue to make good and bad choices for the rest of her life just like the rest of the world.

On Buffy's 1430 score on the SAT, we must remember that the SAT is a test of ones true knowledge not their ability to take test. You can guess and be rewarded on a test, you get points deducted for doing that on the SAT. Now Buffy, not the school version but the Slayer version her entire skill set would be perfect for what the SAT covers. here is one example for each part to illustrate my point. Decision making.....Buffy has to research, counter-intuit, learn, strategize, decipher and design a "battle plan"......that is the verbal.......logic sound decision making, planning, linear thinking all add in the "Language" of Math

I love how this episode forces everyone to deal with their own personal demons from the people in the show to the viewing audience we are all supposed to look inwards. Every answer given is from the viewpoint of the person giving the answer......hahahahaha, brilliant forces the viewer inwards.....

The episode isn't perfect but Marster's performance as Spike, going from drunk to menacing, to pathetic in just a few seconds is outstanding. The show has been missing his charisma.

I wish they would have spread out the SAT scores more. Oz and Willow are already both so smart computer companies want to recruit them out of high school. Now apparently Cordelia and Buffy are doing almost as well on the SAT tests as them.

A little bit puzzled by your reaction to Spike killing shopkeeper and threatening willow etc. FYI: Vampires, generally demonic/evil mass murderers. Spike = vampire. .. I'm encouraged by you feeling really angry at Xander and Willow, because it was intentional and it means you care about their characters and show in general (rather than "ugh, stupid teen drama"). Did the show ending want us to feel sorry for them, or show the consequences and their regret? Juxtaposition with Cordelia/Oz was a little weird for that tone.

One of my favourite episodes because I adore Spike... every scene he is in is gold. This episode, with the cordy psyche-out at the end seems to make every one of us realise how much we have grown to love cordy as a character... Loved your reaction throughout this episode! :D

I've been really looking forward to this one. I love this episode, mainly because of Spike. My favourite bit is where he mocks Angel behind Joyce's back. It's hilarious. I also appreciate that this is the episode where the Xander and Willow thing comes out and therefore we can get some closure and move on from it. It would have bothered me more if they would have dragged it on throughout the season, thankfully it didn't last too long. Your reaction when Spike showed up was priceless lol

Best episode of the season so far. Of course with Spike, everything is 100 times better. All the best scenes were the ones involving Spike. Although your reactions to Spike scenes were puzzling at times, for example when your disapproval of Buffy made you say that it was bad that she tried to stop him. The fact that Spike is a very interesting, funny and charismatic character doesn’t change the fact that he is a monster and does terrible things in this episode alone. You were puzzled by the ending, instead it was perfect. Spike comes to town dejected and miserable because of his feelings. By the end, after some twisted physical and psychological therapy, he leaves feeling better than ever and every couple affected directly or indirectly by his actions, is left dejected and miserable. And the song choice, the lyrics and the way he sings them at the beginning and at the end encapsulates all of this. Others have already said what I wanted to say about the whole cheating situation, so I won’t add to it.

As someone that has been cheated on, I understand the hatefulness towards Willow's and Xander's actions but we've all done things we knew was wrong and still did it. We're humans and we do stupid things especially in high school. The whole Willow and Xander arc was about doing stupid things, showing that even characters we love have flaws and mess up. Of course everything with Spike was great, he was basically exposition for the episode. Love is great but it also can be dangerous and can cause a lot of pain and resentment. This is the first episode where the conversations between Angel and Buffy didn't feel so cheesy, it was more real. If they conversed more like this, I probably would be more interested in the scenes about them. I do not dislike them as a couple as much as you do but I didn't think they were all that fascinating either. My favorite scene is actually Joyce and Spike, I love the surprising chemistry they have almost instantly. BTW, Joyce knows what Spike is.... The title of the episode pretty much tells you what will happen, lovers walk, as in, lovers walk away.

Eh. I've always felt pretty bad for everyone involved (though obvs. worse for Cordy and Oz). Then again, I first saw this when I was the age of the characters; it was a lot easier back then to relate to their conundrum with the lack of emotional maturity they showed. But I still find myself compassionate for all of them. I tend to think characters who don't make gigantic mistakes are boring and unrealistic; some of the best people I know have faltered *hard* in the face of temptation. I also think the show did/does a really good job of showcasing the moral grey areas of life (and, in particular, love) - i.e., how to ignore the path you've always wondered about but know you shouldn't go down when it finally appears, in this case. I feel like they did a splendid job of getting us there with Willow's devotion to Xander in seasons 1&2. And it'd be so simple to give her a pass on things (or at least deeper empathy) because of that, but imo, they did it with Xander, too, in Becoming 2 - that realization of his that he might love Willow in a way that had never occurred to him. So, I mean, I *get* why this storyline makes people angry - I've been the cuckholded party in a relationship - but I find the way people lose their minds over it a little extreme. They were kids (something I think people forget, despite the season being set in senior year of HIGH SCHOOL), who were in a pretty niche situation. While that doesn't excuse their actions, it definitely makes them more understandable. From my pov, at least. Loved this reaction!!! Your face at the funeral was effing priceless, and I almost spat out my coffee. Lolol. Looking forward to the next!
