I love all of these hidden Easter eggs. They've had several over the years; my favorite is Root's name. I also found the use of a Windows file extension a little annoying. I wouldn't mind if it was just in the title as a symbolic reference to an executable file for the audience but the shot of the computer screen actually showing "ICE9.exe" as the file name definitely led to a strong suspension of disbelief. But overall it was a great episode.

Some trivia that I would like to share here: (i) the episode title ".exe" is an extension of an executable program/software/code on Windows computers. The title is pretty clever but the fact that we have ICE9 executable in ".exe" is what puts me off. NSA won't be running Microsoft Windows on their mainframe computers, it'll most likely be a custom-built kernel of Linux. But I guess I can invoke that suspension of disbelief here. (ii) you mentioned off the cuff that Finch is much more intense or willing to do what needs to be done now. In my opinion, he concluded that after the event of previous episodes where he lost both Elias and Root, realizing that he won't get anywhere as long as he stands by his moral code. Elias' and Root's deaths were necessary for Finch to reach to that conclusion. (iii) 802.11 is actually a part of 802 protocol set by IEEE to standardize Media Access Control and Physical Layer protocols to implement a Wireless LAN (or Wi-Fi) communication infrastructure. The attention to detail in this show is amazing. The producers must have consulted with tech people on this. (iv) we briefly see the label of that modem that Shaw and Reese use to establish Machine's connection to the outside world. It says "Edward Snowden" who's a real-world whistle blower in the NSA. He stole a bunch of documents from the agency which revealed the extent of their spying and surveillance programs. PRISM, as mentioned in the show as well, was actually one of NSA's surveillance programs. The conversation between Finch and Greer still gives me goosebumps after all these years and re-runs. They are talking about Samaritan enabling humanity to become a multi-planatory species, ending world hunger, poverty, and war. One must wonder if it is worth it or not. Finch is convinced it isn't, he has always been a staunch supporter of letting humanity decide its fate. This was one of the most important reasons he wouldn't give autonomy to the Machine. Greer thinks end justifies the means and it is necessary to sacrifice lives for the betterment of humanity. He demonstrates this by his willingness to sacrifice his own life in line of this objective. Reese and Shaw are absolute best. If it weren't for them, the Machine would never have been able to connect with NSA system and save Finch's life. Samaritan freaking out about the virus is one of my favorite parts too. In its own way, it is begging Finch not to continue. A solid 10 in my opinion. I'm gonna grab some snacks to watch your reaction to the finale.
