Oh my god, Amy in that scene, where Fred reveals her pain in seeing and being seen by her parents is amazing. I love they made Fred staying a positive choice, not just 'ending up' there,

2021-01-18 22:11:26 +0000 UTCif that's why it was put in the episode, i'd agree. but imo it wasn't. it was put in there as a deliberate mislead so the viewer would think fred's parents were evil and that fred needed to run from them. i just don't like cheap gimmicks like this. there were some other deliberate misleads in the episode too. the intention was definitely to make the viewer think that there was something wrong with the parents.

2021-01-15 19:44:38 +0000 UTCActually it made sense to me. Mainly because Lorne probably read the torment inside Fred's head at the time and sense how hard would be for her to face her parents knowing the reality she went through. And when he said run away from those monsters he meant the ones inside her head.

2021-01-15 19:43:28 +0000 UTCi agree with you about how they presented the parents as being shady at first. it was a deliberate mislead but the actions of the other characters don't really make sense because of it. for example...lorne read fred when she sang and deliberately told her to run from her parents. why would he tell her that if her parents are good? doesn't make sense. other than that, i did enjoy the episode. and who doesn't love fred? <3

And I think it's worth noting that while both she and Wesley are the "brainy" types, they have very different areas of expertise. Wesley grew up being trained as a Watcher, so he's mostly well-versed in history and their supernatural/demon lore, while Fred comes from a more real world science/physics/mechanics background, so she does bring something different to the table.

2021-01-15 05:37:20 +0000 UTCI really like this episode. Mostly because I love Fred and Amy Acker is really great. But I do think the misdirection with the parents is kinda cheap the way they did it. Still a good episode overall though.
