Back in the day, some people used to wear different shirt versions of a dickie under a sweater or outer shirt. I guess it’s a way to wear a layered look without the layers. At this point the joke was, why don't we get the girls from two old sitcoms, they say that's ridiculous, and then they get the girl from Roseanne. (Leslie being played by Sara Gilbert).
