Would Love Some Input
Added 2021-02-05 22:19:55 +0000 UTCHowdy ladies and gents, so for the last few weeks me(Steven) and Brian have been working on some Anime content. I have been trying to figure out the best way to bring this content to the community.
Our Plans for YouTube are to put these videos on a second channel which I have mentioned in the past.
The plans for Patreon are still up in the air. I do plan to put them over here on Patreon but am not sure what the best way to do so is.
As you know we have a lot of stuff that we put up because I myself want to put as much value on the Patreon as possible. (I think that’s where my anxiety has come from, I always want to give more and figure out what more I can do thus overwhelming myself and failing lol)
I know how passionate the anime community can be and I don’t know what to do when it comes to where to send them for the full/early reactions.
The thought of a new Patreon seemed appealing but also seemed like a lot more work for me.
The the idea of bringing those that want anime to the Patreon worries me because I have seen some creators deal with less than friendly people coming into their Patreon communities.
I don’t want to add a bunch of new stuff that you all don’t have interest in and fill up an already filled timeline with more stuff but I have been wanting to get back into anime for a while and it’s why I started recording for it again.
So my question is should I add it to this Patreon the same way I do everything else. Giving it its own post and allowing comments for each or multiple episodes of a particular show? Should I do one giant post weekly with episodes from each anime on it and they share the comments section but there is no voting system and all shows would just share the comment section( not as appearing to me because it sounds like comment section would get confusing)
So I want to know what you have seen from other creators that you support and how it affects the other comment sections.
Those Curious I am bringing back several anime that I was doing early on when I started doing reactions.
Brian’s shows include: Haikyuu, Naruto, Attack on Titan, Rent-A-Girlfriend, Seven Deadly Sins and not an anime but Avatar. He is about 5-10 episodes ahead on most of these shows.

Please continue attack on titan!

2021-02-11 05:30:17 +0000 UTCI'm sorry but as others have mentioned I have no interest in Anime shows. Can't say I ever watched one and enjoyed, maybe Pokemon a little. But I would love for you to add more shows that not a lot of reactors are doing. Shows that deserve more love. Like Fringe. I would love to see a reaction from you to that show. Even if it's just the Pilot episode.

2021-02-08 00:34:04 +0000 UTCNot an anime fan so I can't say. Here's hoping you continue with Supernatural, Buffy, Gilmore Girls, Nikita, Psych and Castle, though. I don't want to be the bad apple or the sour grape or whatever but will you have time? As it is, there are a few shows (like Nikita and Haunting of Hill House) that are late. I'm sure there are more shows on this channel that I either follow and forgot because there's just too many to remember off the top of my head, or shows that I don't watch your reactions to as I'm not a fan, but I do know I've been waiting on a few for a good long while and there's been nothing. Should you be adding more shows, anime or not, to the roster when you're behind on the existing ones? I don't know, just my input. If you've got this covered, you've got this covered. I don't know your schedule. But I do hope that we get to see the remainder of the shows that are on this channel already. Good luck, guys!

2021-02-07 12:58:23 +0000 UTCI'm an Anime fan would really enjoy seeing reactions on this channel! Haikyuu is amazing! My Hero Academia, and the Full Metal Panic Serial are all suggestions I would make. I'd love it if you could watch Eng subbed. I understand the apprehension in bringing in potential vocal fandoms. As a fan of anime I apologize on behalf of those of are too passionate to remember thier manners. Please remember that they are in the minority. The majority of us are quite nice. I think the trick to managing these bad players is to set really clear expectations that you expect people to play nicely and be explicit about behavior you will not tolerate (and do this on every video). This will hopefully the jerks at bay. If not we will defend you! If you're nervous about this I would say maybe start off with the once a week digest of reactions to test the waters? But for sure there is an audience for this here already on Patreon

2021-02-07 05:04:47 +0000 UTCI am not an anime fan so won't speak to the anime needs of the channel! Just wanted to say I keep subscribing for reactions to shows like Parks and Rec, Gilmore Girls, Psych, New Girl, the Office, and Castle, and I hope those stay in the mix if possible!

2021-02-07 03:58:58 +0000 UTCSince I’m an anime fan and OG Patreon subscriber I’m 💯 on board with anime reactions. Yes the anime community can be volatile but I’ve seen a ton of other non anime shows have some brutal fan bases as well. My Hero Academia is a must. Season 5 is starting soon. Attack on Titan final season is huge right now and f*ing fantastic. If you like Slice of life animes Fruits Baskets and Horimiya are very good. I got a ton of suggestions.

2021-02-06 21:52:44 +0000 UTCOh, and of those, Attack on Titan is the best reaction show probably, simply because there's so much shock value and mystery involved.

2021-02-06 20:13:09 +0000 UTCInterested, but only as long as you're watching the dub. Every reactor watches the sub. Be unique. Be different. (This is going to be a controversial comment)

2021-02-06 20:12:42 +0000 UTCI agree with the weekly anime post. Maybe designate a day like Anime Fridays and just post that content then. Anyone who joins this channel has access to so much content, it’ll be worth their joining.

2021-02-06 19:24:00 +0000 UTCFor the most part anime is great now the fan base can be difficult to handle because depending on what show you chose the demand will always be high and they sometimes expect you to view it the the way they do and because some of the anime’s make up a a plethora of episodes they for some people one episode a week won’t cut it for them(idk if that’s the way you guys were planning on doing it)...Plus add the fact for the longest time watching anime wasn’t considered "cool" but through the years anime community has grown faster than ever but you also have people who watch anime just to say they "watch" anime and have absolutely no clue on what’s going on and that’s what triggers the anime community.......now to actually watching the shows ,when you take in to account of filler episodes depending on what anime your watching it can be anywhere from 1-10 episodes in a row not taking account to filler/cannon episodes that stuff may or may not interest you especially if you just want to get through to the plot of the show........and then you have the subbed vs dubbed community who can be pretty harsh but that can be worked out through time........my personal opinion if your doing anime especially longer anime’s try to do at least 2-3 episodes only because a lot of episodes end right in the thick of things and for viewers it may be tough.....also I would do a survey to see if people want to react to filler episodes just to play it safe.....lastly just go in to shows with your own expectations and patience......because yes some of these anime’s are great right out of the gate......but other shows take a lil more patience because character development and story telling are also what sells the anime’s ......no matter what you choose it should be fine

2021-02-06 19:22:39 +0000 UTCAs others have mentioned, the anime community tends to be more volatile than that of "regular" shows. I think, however, that this mainly applies to shows that actively address topics that the western media and television label as "controversial" and tiptoe around instead of dealing with directly (racism, false rape accusations, the question of whether someone, based on their actions, should be considered a war hero or mass murderer etc). There are many shows that are probably more "safe" in that aspect, especially those that deal with "slice of life" or comedy situations.

2021-02-06 17:22:53 +0000 UTCI have seen some really scary comments from other Patreon creator's fans especially under the anime content. They comment on other shows that you do that are not related to anime and troll a lot. I have also seen creators getting attacked for not understanding or seeing something the same way the fans do. Like the other comments say any show can have toxic fandoms but if you do create a mass anime post, you should probably watch out for that.
Nan A
2021-02-06 16:37:44 +0000 UTCI don't like anime but honestly any show can have toxic fandoms. I think you should save yourself the work and just post it here as a few have suggested do a mass anime post to segregate it from the other shows. That won't stop trolls but really nothing would anyways so don't worry about it. We are all big girls and boys here and if a couple idiots want to troll other show's comment sections we'll all live. I just remind the community DON"T FEED THE TROLLS!
Libby
2021-02-06 15:55:14 +0000 UTCjust make a mass anime post i feel like not everyone can pay for two separate patreons and i think that would be more work for you. i love anime tho so i absolutely would love to watch some anime
Gabriela Enamorado
2021-02-06 14:46:45 +0000 UTCI would suggest if you don't want to make a separate Patreon and that's understandable, I'd go with the weekly mass anime post and let the shows share the same comments sections that you suggested. That way it doesn't clog the feed for people who won't be interested in anime.
Fly on the Wall
2021-02-06 12:39:00 +0000 UTCFor me I am only interested in Avatar both ATLA and Korra. But o don't think you should make a new patreon. Because that can be to much money for people. I already have the 10 dollar here. And can't/ won't afford to sub to a new one. And I think many people are with me on this. Tho I could raise a bit here if there is a new tier. But not much.
Dennis Wolf
2021-02-06 09:49:58 +0000 UTCWithout heavier moderation, there is no way to invite the anime community into a patreon that doesn't involve them spamming the comments of every reaction that isn't the anime they're waiting for. It is unavoidable.
Second_Strike
2021-02-06 09:46:52 +0000 UTCI think consistency is the most important thing. Make sure you have a schedule that you can actually meet, than that would already be one less issue to for people to complain about. Maybe post a schedule in general, many reactors do, with when which show comes out that can help as well. But be mindful of how many shows you add, there is already a consistency issue with some shows. Like mentioned above the sub - dub is the biggest issue, I know other than shipping issues. Personally I don't watch any dubbed reactions, so which every you pick you will end up losing some over it and get a clash over it. Be sure you know which one you are picking and make that clear in the very first episode and explain why. So the issue there is solved, at least once you reached the second episode, I hope. Maybe for anime you can do what you do in the five dollar tier, post them at the same time, that way it is only one post :-)

2021-02-06 08:20:39 +0000 UTCI personally don't watch anime, but if you guys enjoy it and are not overwhelmed by it then why not? I just hope the other shows still get you excited too.
thisismaria27
2021-02-06 07:45:50 +0000 UTCI'm not an Anime fan, but you have plenty of other content I enjoy watching. You should do what you feel like doing, though I must say that managing mulitple Patreon accounts will be ALOT of work. So maybe just stick with one Patreon and possibly make an Anime tier.
KayGee
2021-02-06 07:35:51 +0000 UTCI love anime, but please dont do series with a huge number of filler episodes. Stick with "short" ones like full metal alchemist, cowboy bebop that are relatively short.

2021-02-06 06:42:22 +0000 UTCYeah, pretty excited for that next Doctor Who myself. It's a biggie.

2021-02-06 05:11:34 +0000 UTCi love anime, i say go for it (naruto might be a bit too big of a commitment though, maybe try a show like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood or even YuYu Hakasho instead)

2021-02-06 04:18:07 +0000 UTCI have no interest in anime, but since you have separate posts for each show then that isn't a big deal. I just don't open the posts for shows I'm not interested in. I'm sure a lot of others are the same. So the comments shouldn't bother those that doesn't wish to see them. Hopefully it won't bring a lot of toxic fans...I didn't realize the anime community was like that. I don't think you should go to the trouble of making a whole other patreon. First, there are a lot of people here that might want to watch you anime and live action stuff, so they'd end up having to subscribe to two different patreons then. Also I think it would be more work for you guys to have to keep up two different patreon accounts. However, it's your decision obviously!! :)

2021-02-06 03:25:07 +0000 UTCSomething I also wanted to bring up that I hope doesn't cause an argument is Dub vs. Sub because a lot can be kind of toxic about it. I personally say to each their own but I personally prefer Dubs and I know that's not a popular opinion with some. I watch a ton of both Subs and Dubs because sometimes there is only a Sub or the Dub hasn't been released yet but if it's available I prefer them. I watch the Dub if it's there and if not I'll watch the Sub and then sometimes re-watch certain fav shows in Dub once it's released or just before a new season comes out. I know some Dubs weren't as good back in the day and I know some don't think they always fit the characters now but I feel for the most part they do and are well done showing the right tone and emotion. There are a bunch of VAs from shows who show up on other shows I like. I still watch the Subs and follow along but I feel with it being in English a lot of times exposition is easier to follow and remember and the punch lines to jokes seem to hit better then reading them. Both are good in their own ways and everyone has there preferences but that's how I feel.

2021-02-06 02:39:23 +0000 UTCi love anime and it would be really awesome if you brought it back to the channel especially ones like hunterxhunter

2021-02-06 02:26:33 +0000 UTCI love Anime and watch a bunch. I'm open to whatever way is best for you. Regular individual posts or grouped posts. I'm a big fan of Isekai, Shonen, Romantic Comedy, Harem, Ecchi etc. Some of the only ones I really don't get into as much are Mech ones but to each their own and I'm going to try again at some point. You probably already got a lot on your plate and it sounds like you have a lot good ones to finish between you two right now. But once you are done with some maybe we can do a comment thread or something and suggest some stuff and then take a bunch of them and vote on doing however many of them and then do the others after that and so on. Anime seasons can some times be long running or several seasons but sometimes they are only 12 episodes because of how the industry works over there in Japan with DVD or LN/Manga sales etc. Also sometimes either waiting on source material stuff or a series just being a driver to the manga for seeing the rest of the story. Sometimes there is a chance of getting more seasons it can happen quick for some and only after years for others if at all. Either way some that are only 12 may leave off on a cliffhanger per se but a lot are still worth investing the time because they can be good stories, have good characters, be funny and have good animation. Now some are better then others and people have their preferences but I try to just enjoy them not nitpick. Some people can be pretty toxic and some can be kinda be PC about some stuff so I think we all just need to go into it with a positive attitude and enjoy the shows together and if people have criticisms that's fine but we just have to remember to be respectful and not be a troll. lol.
TheMew
2021-02-06 02:11:58 +0000 UTCI would love to you bring back some of the anime you have been doing I would just take your time that way you are overwhelming yourself as for less then friendly people you have some people like that just if you can get some one who can keep eye on things and block people if need be if that should happen

2021-02-06 01:52:27 +0000 UTCIt would be really nice to see you react to some anime shows! Although it is true that many people can be abrasive in what they do/don't like about reactions. Just let yourself enjoy watching them without the weight of other people's expectation. They will judge regardless. Maybe there could be some moderators to help? But just let them know that negative criticism and rudeness will not be tolerated. if they suscribe to your patreon then they should already have insight into how you react and so if they can be reasonable with other shows you watch , then they should be able to be reasonable about anime.

2021-02-06 00:11:00 +0000 UTCSo if your worried about the one “fans” from YouTube most of them are gatekeeping fans or not real fans. Since YouTube is free a lot people take the opportunity to troll. Most of the time they aren’t part of the community they’re just there to ruin the experience. Patreon you have to pay so your not going to really see that :)
Rosemarie
2021-02-05 23:57:13 +0000 UTCThere’s no way to predict or control how commenters behave. All you can do is put your content out there, explain that rude comments won’t be tolerated and hope for the best. If people feel the need to be rude over a tv show they can subscribe somewhere else😁

2021-02-05 23:46:29 +0000 UTCI’ve been in several anime Patreon’s we are all care about the shows but that’s not really different from live action shows for example pretty little liars lol. The only problem I could see happening is a debate over the fight of sub or dub. But once that’s out of the way it’s mainly smooth sailing. I don’t think anyone will give you a bad time about uploads as long as you don’t treat it like another community’s where you get one episode a month. That gets a bit annoying when other shows get two or three episodes a week. Anyway I wouldn’t mind spending money on another geeked out nation Patreon account for anime. I will stay on the main Patreon as well though cause I also enjoy the boomer shows like house lol! We aren’t toxic lol it’s just a lot of us just like to debate sometimes it gets heated but it doesn’t get out of control like people think. Alright anyway since you guys might read this comment I wanted to tell you guys I really enjoy you reactions to glee, office, house, and the big bang theory they are some of my favorite shows other than anime I watch them constantly. You guys have great reactions and it’s like watching shows with some friends since we can’t really do that with friends cause of COVID. So thanks for posting videos and I hope you guys keep going with all the shows and new ones when you can. But don’t overwork yourselves. :)

2021-02-05 23:17:44 +0000 UTCI think the paywall of the Patreon would weed out a good portion of the flood of, let’s call them “dipshit,” comments you’re fearing, since they can go elsewhere to be ruinous for free. From my experience as a current or former Patron of channels with anime content, it honestly isn’t too bad most of the time. Blind Wave and the Normies’ comment section is demanding, but not overly terrible; most fights that break out have actual substance to them, or are when a hotly anticipated reaction is delayed. Smaller channels like Primate and Jimmy Macram have much smaller comments, which are largely wholesome and helpful as fuck. YaBoiRoshi’s by contrast has hundreds of comments per video and is an unending miasma of brain torture. It also definitely varies from show to show. Older pedigree shows are usually 90% helpful comments, 10% spoiler happy trolls. Newer shows are 50% hype, 20% “I’ve read the manga,” 20% regular trolls, 10% spoiler trolls. But that’s just my experience. Then again, I’m apparently a “very sexist and toxic” anime fan, so clearly I can’t be trusted.

2021-02-05 23:11:32 +0000 UTCI have no interest in anime (although I am not opposed to animated shows in general) I actually really appreciate the amount and diversity of scripted live action shows that you guys do. As someone who likes prestige 'grown up' shows and comedy it's harder to find quality reactions to that sort of material. With that in mind, I'd rather see reactions to things like BoJack or Big Mouth when it comes to animation. While I would still be here for your regular reactions, I think that a lot of anime on the same Patreon might change your 'brand' a bit, which could be alienating for patrons like myself, especially if it seemed like the anime was making other reactions come out less frequently.
Jojo77
2021-02-05 23:11:31 +0000 UTCSecond that! Would love AEW reactions once a week! Though it is a 2 hour show, I guess it's quite time consuming. Steven could record 2 shows in that time with time to spare.

2021-02-05 22:58:39 +0000 UTCI haven’t watched anime in forever & probably won’t start again. I didn’t realize you were doing something live, but would like to see AEW reactions. That being said if making more content is giving you anxiety then maybe you shouldn’t replace ending shows until you get to a level that you are comfortable with.

2021-02-05 22:42:08 +0000 UTCHave you considered investing in an editor? I mean, the editing you do for the full length on Patreon isn’t the most time consuming, so you could probably find one for a decent price. This would free up your time to do more shows like you want to do. I think having an editor could solve a lot of the issues you are having and help fulfill the desire to do more shows

2021-02-05 22:39:56 +0000 UTCPersonally had experiences of anime fans coming onto a community I really like. The negative aspect is they passionate to the level where some people will not understand how on earth is plausible to watch some boomer boring show like House when they are waiting for their cliffhanger episode to drop. Many very opinionated people, many younger people. The only time personally the anime part really got me upset is when an anime show is picked up by a reactor over some amazing shows and it's always a losing battle cause anime fans come with numbers in polls. I think creating a new Patreon is a bit excessive, don't streess yourself out. What I would do in your situation is reaffirm your TV audience that this won't affect their wait time for their favourite shows, you already have alot. As for the conflict of culture, you could just have separate Tiers for TV and Anime, that way comment sections won't mush as much. At the end of the day you do you! Just don't bite off more than you can chew. EDIT: Also, as I see some people mentioning it and it rings super true, no patience. You will get blasted if you're late on an upload. That being said I will watch Naruto if you pick it back up 😛

2021-02-05 22:33:22 +0000 UTCI’m not an anime watcher but from what I’ve seen on other people’s YouTube videos they can be quite.. something. When it comes to wanting to do more and feeling overwhelmed I’d say perhaps put some shows on break or watch them on your own and make reviews instead so you can focus on the things you truly want to do if that’s anime. Perhaps that would lessen the workload or hardship of balancing live action and anime. I hope it all works out! :)

2021-02-05 22:32:16 +0000 UTCFrom what I’ve seen on some other creators channels they’re very passionate fans. They can sometimes be annoyed if you don’t post consistently but I think that would just be because they’d enjoy your reactions.

2021-02-05 22:25:56 +0000 UTCI’ve found the anime community to be very....passionate in the comments sections on other Patreons. I know having a second Patreon would be a lot of work for you, but it’s a good idea to consider. You can also just try to be as consistent as possible when it comes to uploading anime reactions on this Patreon or it can get a little negative to be honest.
