You are so lucky to have not spoiled about having the 10th Doctor and "Rose" returning for the 50th! We were so spoiled! I really wish they kept it a secret! Love your reaction towards the 10th Doctor showing up lol gotta love reliving these moments with new viewers! The excitement is real. So are you going straight with the xmas sp? Or are you reacting to 'An Adventure in Space and Time'? Cuz that would be great! But either way though it doesn't matter! I am very VERY excited for s8-10! It's (imo) Moffat's best work. So can't wait for that! ;)

2021-02-08 18:28:21 +0000 UTCIt’s a great episode but I just find it such a bummer that Eccleston refused to return for this and that the original draft of this episode had it as the 3 modern doctors rather than the two newest ones and they had to invent “the war doctor” to fill out the part originally meant for Eccleston’s 9th doctor. It was always meant to be Eccleston’s doctor who was the one in the time war and not to have a special war doctor. But Eccleston’s refusal to participate made them create John Hurt’s War Doctor. Hurt is fantastic in the episode don’t get me wrong but having it be Eccleston really would have made it special. The curator at the end was played by Tom Baker. Baker played the 4th doctor. He played the role of the doctor longer than anyone and is considered by most of the fan base to be the greatest version of the doctor and the one that a lot of who fans really grew up with. So it was very neat to see the longest running doctor have that scene at the end with Matt Smith.

2021-02-07 18:58:54 +0000 UTCThis is one of my all time favorites for reasons you already mentioned. I love the callbacks. I love seeing Tennant with Smith and Hurt and their chemistry together. I love that they manage to find a solution to the war without burning everyone! Also I REALLY hope you get to watch and react to An Adventure in Space and Time. It is a wonderful movie about the making of doctor who in the 60s and I think you’d really enjoy it!

2021-02-07 09:29:50 +0000 UTCSteven, to give you a bit of context: Since the late 60s and the 2nd doctor, he'd work with U.N.I.T. and there would be Brigadier (general) Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. The actor passed in 2011 and the blonde woman plays his daughter. For example, the brigadier was in the very first episode that introduced both companion Sarah-Jane Smith to the third doctor as well as introduced the potato heads, the Sontarrans to the show. The scarf that the assistant is wearing is a nod to the 4th doctor, who'd wear this ridiculous long scarf during his run. The actor of the 4th doctor is the curator who we see at the end. 4th and 10th are the all-time fan-favorite doctors.

2021-02-07 08:20:08 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, Classic Doctor Who up to the Paul McGann’s(8th Doctor) movie still had Galifrey and The Time Lords, the war started between the 8th (McGann) and 9th (Eccleston) Doctors, The time war lasted about 30,000 years, so yes that’s why War Doctor(John Hurt) got old, and The young one from the Night of the Doctor was a younger John Hurt, This episode has one of the best lines in tv history, War Doctor says “Great Men are Forged in Fire, it is the Privilege of Lesser Men to Light the Flame”, I absolutely love that and this entire special, Tennant and Smith have instant chemistry and worked amazingly together, Also Gallifrey is frozen in a moment of time, not in the painting, they just used the painting as an example , also the Curator was Tom Baker the 4th Doctor, and the Zygons are a Classic Who monster Also the Queen Elizabeth storyline makes a David Tennant storyline from earlier in season 3 episode 2 The Shakespeare Code when at the end Queen Elizabeth shows up and sees the Doctor and is very upset and has her soldiers go after him, because he told her here he would be right back after the wedding and he never showed back up

2021-02-07 07:42:08 +0000 UTCAs I history nerd I like the Elizabeth stuff. 10 having married the 'virgin queen' is a good follow through on the running joke of that incarnation as a ladies man. And more importantly, it shows more of the Doctor's relationship with the history of Great Britain. Because now Ellizabeth I had the Gallifrey painting and knew about aliens, and then we see by the time Victoria is on the throne that Torchwood is being formed to combat extraterrestrial threats. Remember the Werewolf episode from way back? Such a fun anniversary episode overall. I can only imagine how amazing it was for lifelong Whovians. I'm really just a fairly casual viewer of the revival and I totally dig it.

The young face you see after he changes is supposed to be a young John Hurt since the war went on forever. Also the Moment taking the form of Rose is important because after John Hurt regenerates at the end of this episode; he becomes eccleston, the first doctor of this reboot and the episode where he meets rose is supposed to be RIGHT after this, as he makes a comment about his regeneration in Rose's house when he sees his reflection.

He was technically the last known Doctor when the show came back in 2005. The show started with William Hartnell, the First Doctor in 1960's all the way up to McGann in 90's who was the 8th Doctor and in 2005 we get Chris Ecceltone the 9th Doctor, Tennant the 10th and so forth. So you saw McGann the 8th Doctor about smack middle of the Doctor's overall lifetime. Matt Smith is 1100 something years old, Tennant was in his 900's when he was alive, McGann would be like 600 something years old here as the Doctor. We get the christmas special tomorrow??! STEVEN YOU ARE THE BEST Not all Gallifreyans can regenrate. They have 2 hearts and age much slower. can live well over 200 years but they do age and they do die of old age. Regeneration was a scietific breakthrough. It was explained during the Tennant era that Time Lords are like elite soldiers. To be able to regerate they have to gaze into the Time Wortex, something that can drive a person mad or kill him. This is why the Master hears the drums it drove him crazy, but he got his regenrations. The old guy in the end is Tom Baker, he was the 4th Doctor. 7 years playing the role, the longest tenure. Legend.
