2020-11-30 12:03:56 +0000 UTCI like the past stuff in the show i think it adds a sense of eeriness to the show. Also, a lot of horror movies involve the past or past events in a town. Even the Scream movies, the first Scream movie had the events of Sidney's moms murder, Scream 2 was about the events of the first Scream movie, Scream 3 was about the past before the Scream movies which led to the events in Scream and Scream 2, and Scream 4 was about the history of the town in relation to the Scream movies and the survivors of the movies. I feel like the past is often important in horror movies. As for the show as a whole i like Scream in general so even if i don't like it much, i still like it because it's Scream, although i didn't love this show at the beginning as it went on i started to like it a lot more kind of like a TV show called Harper's Island i didn't love it during the first half but i loved the second half.

2020-11-01 20:21:09 +0000 UTCI think you forget how much the backstory of Sid's mother being raped and murdered played into the story of Scream 1. It's talked about it, hinted at and explored throughout its entire runtime. From the father being missing, to his phone making the calls, to it being the anniversary, to the beef between Sid and Gale being over her book about the rape and murder, to Cotton's presumed guilt or innocence is continuously questioned, to Gale commentating that the killer could still be on the loose, to the cops talking about her death, to the killer mocking her about her mother's death, right down to the reveal of the killers and their motives being because she broke up his family. This show is just setting up a new backstory because the 1995 murder of Maureen Prescott is stretched too thin to tie into a new TV series that doesn't feature Sidney. I think you should accept that the movies aren't related to the show and try to appreciate the show by itself. It may surprise you. I think you already like the cast.
