I think he's just looking for an excuse to keep disliking Nathan and he wants to protect Haley so much that he read into their kiss more than just being the rule.

2021-07-30 13:00:35 +0000 UTCalso can i take a moment to say how much i love the OTH community here! i adore this show so much but no one in my life has seen it or has any interest in seeing it. i always have so many thoughts and feelings and that's why my comments are so long - i'm allowed to share my thoughts and feelings and see what others think as well. it's such a fun community of varied opinions and backgrounds and it's so interesting to me and so fun! like obviously the show is fun and so are your reactions, but the community here and getting to talk with everyone and share what we think and see others' opinions and viewpoints that may be different than our own is such a fun thing and i just think this little community here is so awesome!

Maybe it's a US thing because I watched a couple other reactors from other countries and they didn't have a problem with it. Yeah, the kiss thing is a little weird but it could have been a kiss on the cheek or forehead so that is open to interpretation. Anyway this is one of the best episodes of season 1 for me. Less drama, more friendships, a little more of my boy Mouth and a shocking ending. The Deb thing was more for gags and it was funny. Payton's dad is a good dude but I think its pretty established that Karen and him will just remain friends because of Keith. Nathan's thing was more like a knee jerk reaction from his previous self. Don't overreact yet. He admitted that he had a jerk reaction and that he's trying to do better.

2021-07-28 20:56:30 +0000 UTCi also want to piggyback on this because things really were wild back then lol when i went to summer camp in the early to mid 2000s we had girls vs boys competitions and whoever lost had to be the "slaves" for a day and follow around your assigned boy or girl and do whatever they asked if you from bringing them their meal trays to cleaning the bathroom urinals to jumping into the pool fully clothed. things were a lot wilder back then and no one really batted an eye. personally i think within reason the auction thing was kind of cute. the kiss at the end wasn't meant to be a big deal and i'm sure with deb it would have been a kiss on the forehead or her kissing her fingertips and touching tim's forehead or something of that nature. sometimes i think shows are so timeless and then i look back and it's a bit jarring. but yeah, this would have been a total normal thing back then lol

2021-07-28 18:51:49 +0000 UTCYou have to remember it was a different time. Back in the late 90's/early 2000's a date auction for charity isn't that weird. A bunch of schools used to do it for fun. It was mainly sporting teams (like football) and such. There were not so many rules back then and people were not so uptight. Everyone knew the score...it was just a fun little date and to be kept platonic. The kiss as part of the deal with just meant to be sort of a peck like Luke and Hayley did. A peck isn't that big of deal. They used to have all kinds of things in high school that would be considered crazy now. For example, my high school had MORP, which was prom spelled backward. It was a dance where people dressed as slutty as they could. The boys mostly wore boxers and the girls...well anything was fine as long as the essentials were covered. This was a school sponsored event lol. It was back in 2000-2002 that I went. They would NEVER do that now. For one thing...it would obviously break schools dress codes. They didn't have dress codes back then though. So...don't forget this show is a different time while you're watching it. Sometimes you guys think it's a weird choice for the show, but was perfectly normal back in the day. :)

2021-07-28 18:29:16 +0000 UTCmaybe i'm wrong, but i never took it as nathan wanting to do anything with peyton. i think it was all just conversation about their past, kind of looking at it with rose colored glasses, but knowing the people they were aren't the people they are now. i never thought he was implying that he'd cheat or want to sleep with peyton, i thought the conversation was just worded weird - kind of like deb with tim, making the audience think one thing when in reality, that wasn't the case at all. he has so much respect and love for haley and while he hasn't voiced it, we've seen it through his actions a lot. i think this episode was about closure with him and peyton and kind of putting the people they were in the past to bed and moving forward with their own relationships and finding a friendship together. whitey did mention during the auction about the kiss, which yeah, is very weird, but things were weird back then lol kissing booths and auctions like this were things. i don't know how they'd get away with it but they somehow did lol i think the kiss between peyton and nathan was 100% in a way a goodbye to the people they were and their relationship. it was clear that it was important to nathan that peyton know he's a different person and wanting to be better for haley which i thought was very sweet. he still holds her opinion of him in high regard but now coming from a platonic place. keith has always given me super creepy vibes around this time. i know some people adore him and root for him but especially with that photo of her and dan with him in the background, i just get this icky kind of feeling. like instead of him just stepping up and being there for her and lucas out of being a good person, did he do those things just because he held on to this hope that she'd finally notice him and want to be with him? idk, just from my own perspective, with that photo, and him kind of hovering around, i just would want to distance myself from him and move on with someone i could see more of a future with (karen's words specifically) so i am all for her moving forward! i love love love brooke and mouth in this episode. he's so sweet with her and in the end when she kissed him "just because" and not even for the auction, i thought that was such a sweet and lovely moment. brooke is a very lonely girl, especially without having peyton (the one person who has always been in her life) and i think it was so nice to see her having some emotional support in this episode. goodness knows she needs it right now!! oh tim lol i gotta love tim he has so many great little moments that are just hysterical and nathan always is like so done with him lol things certainly are never dull with him around lol re: haley's tattoo, i actually really like it. and this is coming from someone who does have some tattoo regret myself. it's not in a place she has to see all the time, and if anyone asks she could just say it's a lucky number, or a meaningful number without having to go into specifics. i like that she got it 100% on her own because that makes it something she did 100% for herself and herself alone. it wasn't to try to impress nathan or something he pressured her into like lucas first thought, but something she wanted just for herself to commemorate her feelings in this moment. ahh again my thoughts are all over the place. but nathan is my favorite and i always just feel so protective of him and i just had a lot of thoughts about his and peyton's scenes together. i may be way off base, but that's just the way i've always interpreted it.

I mean, if there was ever an opportunity and reason it was right there with Peyton, they have history, she's gorgeous, they're alone, but he actively decided against it bc he doesn't wanna do this to Haley. Which to me just shows he is in love with her too. Haley also never said Nathan didn't love her as much, she just said that she doesn't know if he feels the same way she does bc they never talked about it.

That’s weird💀 And Peyton and Nathan kissing was weird, because they’re ex’s. They don’t HAVE to do it. Yeah it’s a rule that Whitey made up but they didn’t have to kiss. Steven is really good at predicting and he said the show doesn’t really do anything that far fetched... but he needs to prepare because in my opinion all S3-S9 is really crazy and definitely different from how it seems now

I expect a lot of those "midnight kisses" went like Lucas with Haley - just a platonic kiss, nothing sexy about it. But you're right, nowadays that sounds like a bad idea.

Even Saved by the Bell had an episode where girls in school were bidding for dates from the boys being auctioned (like Zac, Slater, etc), and the money being raised going towards charity or some school thing. And platonic kisses totally existed back then as well lol. It cracks me up how squeamish you guys are about it. Times have definitely changed lol!

He realized that he was hitting on Peyton and he acknowledges it and makes an active decision to be a better person. He chooses not to cheat-going in the complete opposite direction as Lucas lol

But yeah...the whole boy toy auction as a whole is a little weird...I think it's just cause its a older show. For example, kissing booths used to be a thing in schools as well..and it just seems inappropriate now. So, I think that they are just a bit of an outdated thing

Selfishly I wanted Brooke to bid on Nathan in time. 🤣 however it was awesome that Brooke bid on Mouth and they got close because of it! I love Mouth having the most memorable day and Brooke being able to be vulnerable around someone else. I actually loved Peyton and Nathan who made terrible lovers but good friends. The Deb and Tim stuff was hilarious! And loved finally getting backstory on Jake. Lucas and Haley reconnecting as BFF was wonderful. I love that Haley wanted to bid on her best friend because she missed hanging out with him.
