I'll never forgive them for not giving me a Santana only version of "Worse Things."

DC

I agree it's silly they bring back the the OGs the way they do. I'm glad we see them but they don't need to be in HS. I'm glad they had the Marley storyline since purging does kill people. I like Marley and Rider. Kitty is the worst.

Ryan Murphy wanted to end Glee and have a Rachel/Kurt spin off but was rejected. I bet all the weak storylines are on purpose just to kill Glee and punish the executives for it. He got rid of the ones that stole Rachel/Kurt's spotlight, (Santana, Quinn, Mercedes), and kept the shy ones around to give them nothing to do. At the same time he keeps his mini spin off within Glee doing what he wanted to do since the begining. This will become the Rachel/Klaine until the end so be patient and enjoy what is left. He never intended to give anyone else more spotlight than those mentioned. And don't worry, till this day everybody complains about the same frustrating issues you point out so don't be shy or feel sorry. The episodes are going to be kind of balanced like, one episode with the og visiting and another focused on the newbies and New York. And yes, Finchel taking over the Grease song was annoying.

Mercedes disappeared halfway though

At the time this premiered keeping the OG glee characters involved was very important. At least to me, I didn’t want to see them written off the show. But now re-watching it, I do find myself wishing they would have completely stopped with the Rachel and Kurt storyline and focused on the new characters entirely. It’s no wonder I stopped watching after this season. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Seconding this! It would actually be dope to see you and Brian do it together!

If you want a show like Glee but with better characters and less ridiculous drama…..High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (HSMTMTS) is actually really great. It’s about students putting on a production of HSM, not a reboot of the movies. It’s written sort of like Modern Family and The Office with a mockumemtary style which works really well. I didn’t think I would like it but I ended up loving it! Great music and a super talented cast.

Shana

Rachel did not deserve what her teacher did to her. Also you’ll learn a lot about Brody soon.

Thank you for saying this but the show does such a horrible job at making that clear or committing to the character in that way, that I honestly don't know what the writers' intentions were at this point in the story.

The Kitty stuff is honestly so stupid. I understand they want to talk about disordered eating but having Kitty sew the costume tighter (for drama i guess? it's not even a throwaway joke for comedy) is just insane. I don't get their obsession with making the mean characters full-on crazy.

Noar

just wanted to let you know that Unique is a Trans woman who goes by she/her pronouns, just letting you know

Then we have the vets coming back to the school, through out the year. Lets look at how possible this really is. The problem for the Glee cast isn't (for the most part the cost) but outside of weekends, for most of them it means you need to be back the very next day (or even the same day). Mike had to miss what is likely a week plus. He would not be going to that same school next year (or heck even the next semester/ quarter). Rachel two trips have been brief (one might be on the start of the weekend). So far, that's doable. Kurt one trip no cost to him, and if its near the weekend its doable. Mercedes, as long as someone else is likely paying the trips, absolutely possible, even staying a week or more to help. Blaine going to see Kurt, he's being going to private school, and they already talked about how often he would be going to se Kurt, I think he's parents are covering it and missing a day or two from high school, not an issue. Santana could easily no issues come home every weekend, and even a day here and there and just miss classes. Yeah so far, the only one who would have run into a problem, is Mike. Joffrey Dance Academy would not be pleased. At all.

Glee even (with its ratings declining mid way through season 2) was still one of the bigger hits for Fox. But with its ratings declining, the network felt the show was not strong enough to be split. And it was still strong enough that they weren't going to jettison the cast that made it so popular. So when you get upset about the new kids getting pushed aside for the graduates I recommend you look at the credits of the show. All of the new students are guest stars. None of them are contracted actors guaranteed a set number of episodes. That right there lets you know who both the studio and the network is focused on. Even characters like Mercedes, Mike, and Puck are still listed as contracted players who will have contracts guaranteeing that need to be available for a set number of episodes (if the show doesn't meet the episodes count, the actors still get paid for it, happened with the actress who played Will's wife in season 2). Now of course there are original secondary characters like Tina and Artie who don't get a lot of story time, and the show focuses much more time on the new characters versus them. But in general if it comes down to a newcomers story int or giving focus to Kurt, Rachel, Finn or Santana. Its normally going to go to veteran character. One thing the producers did to is seriously cut back on Will and by extension Emma. So that frees up some more focus on younger characters versus the older teaching staff.

Issues with the story structure of Glee. With having two settings, and more characters, that means we see less of each group. That doesn't mean those characters aren't still interacting, just means we don't see it. Lets use Will as an example. We are 6 episodes in, and we have actually haven't had a huge amount of scenes in Glee. Look at episodes 5 and 6. Really the only part of the Glee club we see is Will telling them that he's going to be leaving and that's Finn will be taking over. Almost every other scene about Lima is concerning teh School musical. That's something Will (like last season) isn't a part of. So we see no real interaction over any of this aspects of the kids story. But that doesn't mean that Will hasn't been teaching Glee club 5 days a week for one hour each day. Now of course because its still fairly early in the school year, Will probably has only had the new students for probably at most 2 months. So of course he isn't going to be as close to them as students that he has had for 2 or more years. That's just the nature of teaching. So because of the split settings, we are going to miss out (even more so then normally for a tv show) events that would happen, so small moments that might show a tiny character beat here or there. Small moments showing character interactions are going to not be coming as often. Most shows set in High school settings for some reason or another seem to start with a Sophomore year. I don't know why this is, but I've noticed it for decades. it's fairly standard (and interesting enough the new students are sophomores, go figure). And frankly since no one expected Glee to last a season let alone in short order become their biggest scripted hit, it's not something anyone considered. Just like the show barely makes any effort about, adding new class members as new students each year would join the school.

I also think that you wanted to say that the writing is contradictory? And I agree lol

I Am Not Chamari

To be fair, Tina hasn't been given much of anything this season. It's like the writers gave up on her character for no discernible reason and are now just doing everything to derail it. It's not that she isn't putting in any effort. The writers are simply not writing material for her. It's honestly really irritating and part of the reason why I say I hate the writers sometimes. Kitty is an actual evil person, like that is straight up psychopathic behavior. I don't understand how we're just supposed to move on from her horrendous actions this episode. I really cannot say anything about the Unique storyline because the way they write her character is actively infuriating to me. Also, why the hell would they stuff the entire rehearsal process and opening night into one episode? At least West Side Story had a few episodes. The show was literally just cast and recast and they're already performing? Wouldn't, like, at least six weeks have passed? It doesn't feel like that at all. Also, the way they deal with eating disorders this episode? Yeah, I hate it. Will's speech towards the end is very annoying to me because we really haven't seen him... do... anything with this new Glee club? Obviously, he has relationships with everyone who is not new to Glee club, but it feels fake to have him say all that to Marley, Jake, and Unique, and also Ryder who technically hasn't joined Glee Club? But is just there? So much more to complain about, but this comment is getting long lmao At least Beauty School Dropout and There Are Worse Things I Could Do was great though!

I Am Not Chamari

i do too! maybe for him it's just too soon for that nostalgia to really hit yet

ke

am i the only one who likes the episodes where the og characters all reunite 😢

gabby

Yea the writing gets better as the season goes on and the person above me is right, you do have to get used to it, especially with the the older characters being included. Yea keep holding on lol between the old characters and the new I think you're going to blow a gasket this season. It's just a lot.

MONIAH ADAMS

I definitely agree that the writing with the split storyline is a little weird and sloppy, I think getting used to it is what it takes, Rachel and Santana going to lima made no sense because she just visited Finn but it has been a while since Kurt was home and he was clearly heartbroken and wanted his own closure, so that makes sense to me, plus all of his friends and stepbrother were apart of the show. season 4 is the biggest shift in the show and its either loved or hated, I personally don't care for the new storylines as much, but I love the new york storyline later on in the show, the storyline also is messy I think because the high school has these big things happening with Finn taking over and all that's going on in new york is Kurt dealing with being cheated on and Rachel's new boyfriend. Plus, I don't know if this is a popular belief but they do go to lima less and less as this season goes on, only returning for big reasons. I'm hoping you grow a little more on this season or just get used to the writing style and energy! great reaction!

woo! excited to watch!
