Alec may be obsessive but it's more because Jace is his parabatai and he literally can't feel him through their bond but like Izzy said Alec knows Jace is still alive because his parabatai rune is still there. They've made hints about the depth and seriousness of the parabatai bond on the show but now they are delving into it. I just wanted you to understand why Alec is feeling the way he is. it's not romantic. It's parabatai. Remember in season one when Alec and Jace were tracking for the first time. Clary told Izzy that it seemed oddly intimate and Izzy replied, you have no idea. [I wrote more earlier but edited because i wasn't sure if it was a spoiler for the next episode.]
