For me it felt like a "well of course you should be OK with it, that's my child's father I can't cut him out" sort of thing. It felt like he was giving her permission where she shouldn't have needed it. It's not like it was a random ex. But that's just my take on it.

I am glad that Lorelai told Luke about the lunch bc it just establishes that she takes their relationship seriously and doesn't wanna hold anything back. She wants to signal him that she's all in. But Christopher is an important part of her life and he is Rory's father, so shutting him out completely might not be possible. I really liked Luke's reaction there - he took it in, thought about it and then let her know that he trusts her. As for Emily: her and Richard are all kinds of snobby and arrogant, but also human. Emily spent her whole life with one man and now that she is navigating living without him ofc that comes with heartbreak. It's hard to move on from someone who defined your existence for so long.
