Man I remember when this episode aired….everyone was SHOOK lol. Poor Alec though, he has a really shit time the first half of this season! Alec doesn’t have a crush on Jace anymore - to contextualize things, Jace was sort of the ‘outlet’ for Alec’s feelings when he realized he was gay. He was never in love with him or anything (besides being Parabatai) but he was confused and scared so he pretty much transferred all of his feelings into Jace. He knew Jace would never feel that way about him, therefore Alec never had to worry about having an actual relationship he cared about. As long as he kind of held on to that crush on someone he could never have, he probably thought he would be able to keep pretending he was straight. So now that Alec actually has someone he likes, he sort of realizes his crush on Jace was just a means to protect himself.
