Eh... I like the doppelganger lore a lot, but to each their own. I think setting it up as a continuous never-ending love story is endlessly fascinating, because it helps me understand a lot about Season 1 Stelena, Stefan and Katherine, and generally why Katherine and Elena look alike. I think it brings a beautiful symmetry to the show.

I Am Not Chamari

I think this was one of the reasons I sorta fell off Vampire Diaries when I was first watching, I think I felt like it was "too much" at this point but I'm sorta feeling it this time around and am gonna watch alongside with you Steven

I don't think anyone said you had to like it. I also agree this season is a bit weaker, but where we disagree is I think it loses points with me when it's doing the stuff not related to the Doppelgängers and Silas. I can't expand at the moment, but I probably will later when we get to certain things.

Fly on the Wall

I wasn't a huge fan of the doppelganger being Stefan either. I preferred when it was just Elena. It is nice that they explained the lore, but that's about all I like about it. Overall, I didn't care for Silas much at all. One of the weakest bad guys in my opinion. I mean... Damon, Klaus, Katherine were all better.

I agree with you about the doppelgänger stuff. Just because the show finally explained the lore/history of it... that doesn’t mean we have to like the execution of it. This to me is one of the weakest seasons of the show and the doppelgänger stuff is a big reason why.

I myself am puzzled that most didn’t pick it up on their own. When Silas revealed himself way back when I watched live at the end of season 4, and he was wearing Elena’s face and said nature needed a version of me that could die, and he then became Stefan, I was like oh so Elena’s first self was that girl from the story. Because Silas spelled it out right there. It would be too much if Stefan and Elena had two different doppelgänger origin stories. Not to say anything disparaging about Steven because I’ve noticed most reactors don’t catch it, either.

Fly on the Wall

I was saying to myself a few episodes ago welp if he don’t like that Silas if a doppelgänger he’s definitely not gonna like who is true love is lmao

Stefan Davis

That mind thing she did on Matt what is that? Also it being another Katherine was not exciting to me so hoping for someone else

The cool thing about this episode is we finally have an answer for why Katherine and Elena were doppelgängers in the first place. Silas and Amara took the immortality and it created the Elena and Stefan doppelgänger lines. The doppelgänger lore finally gets explored this season and it’s the most fascinating use of them as before it was just oh look evil Elena look alike causes trouble, but now we get some more lore, some more backstory the story of the doppelgängers just gets so much more depth and they’ll actually factor into the plot moving forward. Very exciting stuff imo.

Fly on the Wall

Lol it would make zero sense for Silas's love to be Rebekah. That was 1000 years before Rebekah was born. Amara took an immortality spell. Rebekah was turned into a vampire by her mom. I don't think you thought this through. Also, the girl that took Katherine has never shown any witch abilities. She's just a vampire.
