great reaction, Fun Fact the fisher king's scream was Corey Taylor from Slipknot/StoneSour, he is a huge fan of the show and so they had him be the scream

2022-03-14 02:55:35 +0000 UTCThis is long and I apologize. So, Pompeii is a fixed point because that is the universe and the reality that we live in. It is a world event many things happened because of it. There might be a reality where Pompeii wasn't destroyed, but we do not live in that reality so we don't know what the chain reaction would be. In the Doctor Who Universe, this could have an impact on everything so much so, that Donna could have straight up disappeared, maybe she was not born, maybe the company she worked for was never made and she never ran into the Doctor etc. When it comes to people dying it all depends on weather or not you "see" it or experience a life where choices have been made because of that death. The reapers that came because Rose's father didn't die, ended up that way because Rose is Bad Wolf. There is no way that he could have been allowed to live and have Rose end up as Bad Wolf. BW effected so many things in the universe that it would have completely collapsed if he had been allowed to live when he wasn't supposed to. People who are close to the Doctor get hurt because they become tied to the whole reason the universe is still intact in the first place. Their timelines can not be changed or messed with, unless it can be done to where it does not interfere with anything that happens with them and the Doctor. People that are not traveling with the Doctor can be moved around however. They are not tied to the universe imploding because they did not help save it or cause the Doctor to have an idea that ended up saving it. If Apprentice doesn't die then there is no initial ghost to greet the crew at the beginning. It couldn't have happened. The Doctor (or anyone else that is effecting the timeline that they have jumped to) knows, for example, that River is going to break her wrist getting out of the grip of a Weeping Angel, its going to happen because its already been written about in enough detail, there is no way around it. As long as there is reasonable suspicion that there is some kind of wiggle room, an alternate path that can be taken, that will allow the Doctor to use that in his favor. The Doctor wasn't dead, he just appeared to be that way because Clara said the Doctor's ghost was there. The casket is there, and there is something inside, if not for the Doctor, the fisher king would have been inside instead. But because no one had ever experienced a life where the fisher king was in the casket and was released (that we know of), there is nothing to change, nothing bad happens, there are no ripples. The Doctor's Beethoven analogy is a good way of saying time is in no way linear and even he does not understand it all of the time. Time is a racetrack with haybales for boarders. Move the hay too much and you run the risk of suddenly destroying the original track or making it unrecognizable. The regular racers will try to correct themselves but ultimately make a mess all at once at different parts of the track. Completely destroying it and making it unusable. Tl;dr- Time happens all at once. Small changes are acceptable while other things that cause decisions to be made, like knowing someone died, have to occur once you know about them.

2021-09-01 20:23:40 +0000 UTCI've seen this episode before, and I still expected the Doctor at the end to go "I'm an idiot!" and then save all the ghosts too as he finally understands everything...

2021-08-31 10:04:30 +0000 UTCThe rules of time travel in Doctor Who change to fit the story. They make definitive statements and then break their own rules all the time to serve the story. Its just part of sci-fi people come to accept I guess. Especially with a show as old as Who its been around so long it kinda has to break its own rules. Like the concept of "fixed point" i think was created for new who to excuse why some things cant be changed while others can. While the 1st doctor said nothing can ever be changed history will always play out the way it was meant to no matter the actions you take.
