I'm sorry, but I didn't view the whole Liam situation like you did at all. Liam was Rayna's fling. She knows that he is not a guy who gets serious with other people and he even said to her that what he has with Scarlett is just another meaningless fling brought on by shared creative work - same as Rayna. Rayna knows that Scarlett is not in her best mental state atm, which was one of the reasons she wanted her to focus on the album instead of touring rn. So she needs guidance, not a distraction. And Rayna trusted Liam to guide Scarlett through this creative work and not take advantage of her feeling lost. So in my opinion Rayna did the right thing by firing him. She needs to protect Scarlett here.
