Rewatch the scene the first scene of Matt Parkman (the police officer)... and see when Matt Parkman goes into the house to track the little girl's voice and listen to what the officers are saying and see how one of the parents died. Hiro accidentally travelled 5 weeks into the future because he clearly can't control his powers. So that comic book was real because it's 5 weeks in the future. Also, there is way more to his ability that you will continue to see get developed. Also the scene when Hiro learns he's in the future, you should also just rewatch the moment where the detectives gave him the newspaper to see what the newspaper actually says. Each detail is important. The way you feel about Nikki is how a lot of fans felt at this point so no worries.

When he teleported, he actually ended up in New York 5 weeks into the future. He was really there physically. He obviously didn't mean to, he can't control his ability very well at the moment.
