i never really felt like chandler particularly struck out. he did get the kiss in the end! to me if he's struck out, she'd have just left. but he had charmed her enough for her to give him that little moment and i think that right there is gold.

I agree with your idea of the three type of guys. It's funny because each male character in the show kind of represents exactly what you said. Chandler is the first type (to shy to approach), Ross is the second type (tries to be friendly and slow about his approach), and Joey is the third type (lays it on them immediately). You're also entirely right...Rachel is placing Ross in the friend category because he hasn't let her know he feels anything more than friendship. She might feel differently if he let her in on it. Remember he said he was going to ask her out sometime, but he never really followed up on it. Personally, I think Ross should have changed his approach the moment she started talking about wanting passion. He should have just leaned over and kissed her. Rachel didn't want Barry who wouldn't even kiss her on a golf course. Besides, they already had that small kiss in the laundry room. It was a good moment I think. That's always why I liked Friends. It's pretty realistic in some ways. Of course the jokes and some situations are out there...but the people feel real...feel familiar.

Gah, Paolo...I never liked him. I liked his cat though lol. Chandler striking out was funnier than Ross striking out cuz Rachel and Paolo just made me sad for Ross...Phoebe’s weirdness continues to just resonate with me and my seven personalities on a spiritual level

Wow never knew that. It's so cool. It's also one extra reason (Seinfeld fans please don't kill me) why Friends will always be the best sitcom ever (for me).

I was going to score this as "Perfection" just because of the whole "...gum is perfection..." thing, but this episode really IS freaking great. I forgot how funny it is. Chandler and Ross are fantastic in this one. TRIVIA: This episode was part of an NBC event. The blackout in this episode is the result of an event seen in the Mad About You episode "Pandora's Box", where a character causes a city-wide power blackout in New York City. The effects of the blackout are seen in this episode of Friends and in the episode "Birthday in the Big House" of the short-lived NBC sitcom Madman of the People. All 3 episodes originally aired during the evening of November 3, 1994, alongside a Seinfeld episode that did not incorporate the blackout premise (because Jerry thought he was too good to be included even tho the show is set in the same universe). It was known as "Blackout Thursday" at the time and was a huge experiment for a network to do. I still think it was pretty cool as I am a fan of both Friends and Mad About You.
