I think some of Peyton's drawings and the "people always leave" being almost her motto hints at depression a bit but I wish they would have actually had her see someone to get that diagnosis and deal with it as a mental illness because how they did it she does read a little emo phase dramatic teen.

2022-03-15 17:55:27 +0000 UTCeveryone said everything i was going to say lol but i do want to also echo my thoughts about peyton. i think it's very realistic to show that anyone can fall into dangerous things. you don't need some dark story to do so, it can happen to literally anyone. but peyton does have a dark story. she has trauma from the loss of her mom and the guilt she feels. that doesn't just disappear. that's something that you carry your whole life. you can learn to manage it when it gets hard, but those feelings will always be there. she was completely alone the year prior, her dad was gone and she lost her boyfriend and her best friend back to back. also she has the trauma of almost losing her dad and having to go identify a body. so while she does have lots of trauma, it also shows that anyone can appear "fine" and still fall into those things. and what even is "fine." just because she looks and acts "normal" (again, what is that lol) doesn't mean she's not feeling very lost and alone and suffering. i don't thin her storyline right now is at all "random" in any way.

2021-10-12 20:26:31 +0000 UTCI don't agree with Nathan's actions in this episode. I think they are often romanticized, but as we established, he really didn't need to do it and he lied to her about it. I understand that he loves Haley, and doesn't want to spend time away from her, but it's reading as co-dependency. What I love about Nathan and Haley is that they always seemed like a partnership, who will figure things out together. That's not what's happening this episode, In terms of Peyton, I agree with Mariella, it's very much the existential angst. I cannot tell how many teenagers I knew that would do drugs just because it was presented to them. Peyton, moreso than many of these characters, is searching for so much more. She feels like there is a piece missing in her life and the coke was right there, you know? That's my take on the Peyton thing. Regarding Anna, she says that she swiped the hall pass from the principal's office when she met with them.
