Though I'm not a fan or Brandon and callie I do just want to say them being in love at 16 with only knowing each other for 2 months and they had one kiss is believable.

Kristal Whalen

I love the Girls United storyline. All of the things these girls went through are important.

To be fair, I think it’s very relevant to some relationships in real life. Some relationships are just so obsessive that they become toxic, because nothing but that other person matters. It’s very real, and almost always ends badly. As you said, Brandon is a responsible, good kid, and that’s all out the door the moment he goes for Callie. Great discussion!

I get it. You’re explaining fine. I’m much more a “give her a hug and tell her everything is gonna be okay” kind of person, but I agree, Rita is who she needs. I think that’s why Callie and Stef get along so well too. Stef is much more of a tell it like it is person when needed.

brandon is sooo toxic omg. they both are when they are together. i think callie just wants to be wanted and there he is, wanting her. he is always putting her best interests and even safety at risk. he doesn't care what repercussions she could face, just as long as he gets whatever he wants. i think he could be a cool character, and i do like his stories outside the callie stuff, but with the brandon/callie moments, i just can't stand him. he comes across so much more selfish than he's portrayed in his other storylines and he's supposed to be this mature, kind, thoughtful character but with callie, it's like her best interests and safety - and jude's as well, aren't even on his mind.

ahh i hit enter too soon lol, but to finish out, i'm probably not explaining it right, but this storyline has always irritated me. i'm happy she's where she's at in the long run, but i just felt a little annoyed by stef in lena in a way i can't really put properly into words.

oh for sure!! to clarify, i'm not saying they need to tell her she's being adopted rather she likes it or not, that does need to be her choice too. but i feel like they just kind of dropped her? it just didn't feel like they were fighting for her like i felt they should have been. it felt to me like "well, we can't step in because she doesn't want us" instead of them showing up for her and reaching out to show their support for her. i think that's all callie needs, is to know someone is in her corner and won't just give up on her. that's why i really appreciate rosie o'donnell's character in this series, because she has kind of the attitude callie needs someone to have with her, whereas in this one particular moment, stef and lena felt more....almost passive? i

I completely detest the Brandon/Callie relationship. Even the first time through watching the show... I always took that to be that I am a grown adult, and this is geared toward kids. How romantic it is the Brandon is obsessed with Callie and willing to stalk her across town to get at her, regardless of what is best for her or anyone else. I do think that Callie definitely belongs where she is at though. She may not have been through the same things as some of those girls, but she is going through very similar emotional struggles. And no matter the situation, it always helps to be able to relate to others that may be able to understand where you are coming from. She needs to be there. She needs to be in a therapeutic environment that can teach her how to cope with life's struggles without running from them. Ugh, I hate the Brandon/Callie relationship. They are so toxic for each other.

I completely agree with you, but at that moment, Stef and Lena had no idea what was going on. And no child should be TOLD they are being adopted whether they like it or not. The child needs to choose too. There are many reasons a kid might not want to be adopted. Some legitimate, some not at all. Some may think it's an insult to their real parents who maybe died. It is the adults job to provide stability and counseling to be able to come up with a healthy and wise choice when deciding to be or not be adopted though. Callie is going through something, 100%. I think they get that. When I listen to them say that though, I take it as "I don't know why she ran... was it because we wanted to adopt her?!" Not that they would give up on her, just a fear of why she ran, and how they can figure this problem out. I take it as a we want her, but it may be a longer road than we previously thought.

Shannon Hartman

i loathe the "it's not a question if we want her, it's if she wants us" NO! you are the adults! she is a CHILD with abandonment and attachment issues, trauma, ptsd, etc. she needs the adults to step in and to advocate for her and choose her first and foremost, to prove to her that she's wanted and loved, not just...whatever this is. i always hated this part of the story line so, so much. it gets me heated every single time.
