Hallie was a resident when the season started which is kind of like a doctor on probation like what Peter is as a Candidate for Firefighters. Hallie and Matt’s relationship never worked for me. Matt wants kids and that will never change, Hallie told Matt that she wanted kids someday and used her career as a way to push it off . Later we find out that she never wants kids and her and Matt argue, break-up and she leaves. When she came back they never established anything but Matt still loves her and she still loves him. Her stance on kids never seemed to change but the show also never showed them having that conversation again, just them sleeping together. Hallie didn’t even know what to call Matt when she introduced him to her co-workers.
