Yeah Nellie did most of the things. The button thing was confirmed though, you can look it up :)

Oh and the kid in the wheelchair was mentioned once, although we've never seen him before. In one episode Olivia was describing her "deja vu" to Hugh and went super specific. She mentioned seeing bookshelves with books on the lower shelves so even the boy in the wheelchair could reach them. And she did tell Hugh to take down the ropes because they were an accident waiting to happen. "Bodies swinging back and forth".

i always assumed it was nellie that did it. weird stuff always happens when they start aruing. (power going out, buttons on eyes, coffin tipping over) and then its revealed that nellie was there the entire time, so it suggested to me that the weird stuff was her acting out in an attempt to get them to stop fighting. Knocking the coffin over finally does the trick.

Ghost Mom

Steven you're right about at least some of the kids having "powers". I think it's more like they're super sensitive and intuitive. The mom is like that too. Theo's is the most obvious, she can sense and see things when she touches people and objects. Shirley has precognitive dreams (?). She probably could do it awake too but she dismisses everything supernatural so she only does it subconsciously. Nell's has something to do with time. According to the mom she also said the house was "loud" when they moved in.

I think it was Olivia who put the buttons on Nell's eyes. She loved buttons as a kid.

I don't think Hugh knew Nell was the bent neck lady before he saw her in this episode. There's no way he could have known she'd die like that. But when she appeared to him as a ghost he put it together. It's really heartbreaking that when she said "Daddy", he immediately recognized her, wasn't scared and tried to go after her. But imagine seeing your own child like that.

Steve is 100% acting like a jackass but I still understand him. He doesn't believe in ghosts. All the books he's written and all the stories he's heard from people, he hasn't seen any proof of supernatural so why would he believe it? He does know mental illnesses are real. He knows they're hereditary. He was told their mom killed herself, Luke has a problem with drugs and Nellie's seen psychiatrists all her life and been on medication. He genuinely believes it's all mental. Even when he saw mom in this episode he thought it was all in his head.

The short conversation between Hugh and Luke next to the casket in case you missed some of it. Luke: "The bent neck lady.. do you think she was.. I mean this whole time it was.. (Nellie)?" The dad says yeah. "She didn't do this to herself (kill herself)?" Dad says no. "Neither did mom, did she?" Dad says it's complicated.

the one back in the funeral home when shirley finds out about theo and kevin taking the money was the longest - 17:30.

I'm surprised that steve caught the first few mins of that one shot take! Most of reactors (including me) took quite awhile to realized that! The man with the glass that shirley kept seeing first appeared in ep2 (shirley's ep). "I was screaming and shouting, but none of you could see me! Why couldn't you see me?" It's a metaphor for depression. When the scene first came, I just fucking bawled cuz it hits home for me. I feel for Nell. This whole show is just a big fat metaphor for depression. Nell pushed the casket to stop the dad and steve from fighting any further, "guys! stfu and stop fucking fighting!" Lol. Great reaction to my fav episode!

That whole thing really WAS a one long take. It was so incredible. The director spoke about the process. The long take is what made this episode on par with Nell's episode for me cuz nothing beats the plot twist of the Bent Neck Lady. The emotional punch of these last 2 episodes though...man, I just can't. I don't know how Victoria Pedretti didn't burst out crying when they were telling stories about Nell. It was just so sad. I'm not cool with Steve and Shirley here. Nell tried talking to you and you blew her off. Dad probably tried telling them too and Steve went his whole life denying it. He'd rather believe Mom was nuts. Don't start pointing fingers now and blaming Dad and Nell. That reunion was so terrible. So tense and awkward and painful. This episode is just made of one takes and it's pretty amazing. You think after seeing Nell the way she died at the funeral home after the lights blew, Dad understood what the Bent Neck Lady really meant finally or he knew the whole time? There's no way he knew all along, right? That would be such a heartbreaking revelation learn, that your kid has been seeing her own death since she was 6 years old. The statues move sometimes if you pay close enough attention. I never caught it myself until another reactor caught it lol. Steve went too far saying the wrong parent died. His dad went through something traumatic too. He didn't have denial to lean on. He lost his wife AND his kids. He's been alone pretty much this whole time. Steve needs to just get off his high horse. I think Nell tipped her coffin over. She just wanted them to stop fighting. Steve crying as they righted her coffin was the saddest thing. This entire family needs therapy. I don't think Nell was jumping timelines. I think the house made her invisible and shielded her from everyone's eyes. It likes playing tricks like that. The ending was so sad. Luke not wanting to let her go, Nell being invisible her whole life and even in death...man, it made me sob the first time I saw it.

You guys missed the cut after the chandalier dropped, but even so the first take was roughly 15 minutes long, which is still super impressive considering all the stuff in the funeral home (switching out kid nellie in the coffin, switching in and out the kids when the dad sees them, and just all of the talking, plays the fact that the hill house and funeral home are one joint set for that seamless transition. There were other single take scenes ofcourse through out but the first 15 minute one was the longest. It was things like the bent neck lady twist and the incredible directing of this episode (+one shots) that people were so excited for you to see and so I'm very glad you returned to the show with David. As scary as the show can be it's such a well made, well directed and well acted show, it's a shame that the horror element can keep some people from appreciating it.

Ghost Mom

I think other people will explain some things much better than I can, but I will say you have seen that man Shirley saw (in her episode). And that actually is Nathan from One Tree Hill lol
