I'm on the fence about Papa Tunde. Obviously, lore-wise, it makes complete sense why he had to be killed, and I like that he sort of lives on through this very powerful blade that can do things worse than death, but I also think he could have genuinely lasted longer with more creative writing. Just a few more episodes... he was VERY cool and I would have liked him to have a run-through with Elijah and Hayley before he was killed. When I found out that Marcel and Rebekah was the reason that Mikael came to New Orleans and ran them out of town, I was in total shock. Like, all of that to get Klaus out of the way? Truly, I was losing my mind. It's an insane twist that has a pretty big impact.

I Am Not Chamari

The episode that Klaus has a conversation with Tyler is 1x07. The episode where Klaus defeats all the vampires is 1x08. Tyler was put in the garden in that episode - I don't think they ever explained how Tyler was set free. Or maybe, I'm missing something.

They dealt with Tyler a couple episodes back I believe. After the whole kidnapping of Haley and teaming up with Marcel's vampires to fight Klaus and Klaus totally beating them and taking over, Klaus had a conversation with Tyler that was basically like, you're not even worth killing, your punishment is having to live knowing that you're powerless to take your revenge. And I guess he's been sulking since then to when he shows up in Vampire Diaries last episode.

This is probably a nit pick, but it always bothered me when Klaus gave Papa Tunde his sons heads. Because if he was channeling them he should have known they were dead, he would’ve felt their power stop.

If you remember back to when Marcel first made a move on Rebekah, Klaus daggered her as a punishment but gave Marcel a choice: either remain a human and be with Rebekah or leave her daggered and become a vampire. Klaus ended up keeping her daggered for 52 years which is why she was mad at Marcel when he first came back from the war. Also as others have mentioned, Tunde’s blade causes untold pain and suffering (a fate worse than death) even to an Original

They killed Papa Tunde bc the power in the blade only works if Papa Tunde's own power goes into the blade as well. They need him as the final sacrifice. But he was a very cool villain though.

important distinction! papa tunde's blade is super powerful nevertheless.

It would’ve been nice to have Papa Tunde continue on the show. But I do still like the idea that for the blade to be effective the person who created it must die too.

He didn't say it would kill an original. He said it would do things worse than death to them
