I hadn't thought of it before this viewing, but Mutt and Jake are rather similar, in that they unrealistically expect others to just accept their choices. Mutt is kind of clueless about it, like why can't his girlfriend and his ex just get along and not make a fuss? and he doesn't think ahead to consequences. While Jake is way more aware, he just genuinely likes both Stevie and David, and sees no reason to hide it or to give up either of them. That IS a wonderful scene, with one Rose after another invading David's room while Jake is in a towel. "If you take half as much care of our boy as you do of your physique..."
